We booked the supervisor room but the pictures in the booking did not match the actual room. I was disappointed. I paid for the room because I felt it will be nice to wake up in a beautiful room like that. But that was not the case. The stairs were a hassle with suitcases. The prices are too high for a country hotel.

The location is awesome. The building is beautiful.

The staff didn't provide any information about our stay at check-in such as the WiFi password or breakfast times (so we missed breakfast)! Few water stains on the ceiling and walls near the windows in the bedroom suggestive of leaks.

Lovely hotel, clean and spacious room with a lovely bathroom. Excellent location. Great price!

The radiators didnt work very well in our rooms. Grout missing, and very cracked bath panel. The furniture throughtout the hotel was all stained. Theres big cracks in the walls. During breakfast, when the staff were asked if they could get some more of something, either questioned you or tutted. They were reluctant to do anything. The tables weren't set, or either piled up with dirty plates. Not enough mugs or cups to go about.

Brilliant location. The front of house staff very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. Clean.

The bathroom or ensuite had not been thought out, practically . The bath was too small and was too close to the toilet, making it difficult to use the toilet properly. Very difficult to get in and out of the bath for a shower and the water pressure was very poor. Anyone that was not agile would have found it very difficult. It would’ve been better to put in a shower cubicle. Our suggestion for breakfast is to provide boiled eggs as an addition to the menu, so that vegetarians would get protein in their meal.

Getting tired for 4 star Extra coffee and milks in room needed May have to drive around back depending on room number or long walk with bags up stairs. But can park car near room .

I had requested a double room be made a twin on two occasions before guests returned after a family party. This was not done. The next morning reception staff were quick to apologise, however. Some rooms are only accessible indoors by lots of stairs and corridors - not ideal for elderly with mobility issues. However, car parking at rear of hotel does resolve this to a point but the upper rooms in this wing are only accessible using stairs. So, do check where your room is located when booking.

Great location for Matlock and the Peak District. Clean and pleasant rooms. Stylish and calm colour palette in restaurant. Historic hotel. Amazing views of lido and cliffs from the rooms in rear wing that have balconies.

The spa facilities were disappointing in that the sauna was not hot, the steam room created a lot of steam but never got hot. These should have been put on from 10am in the morning so that the guests who could only use if a treatment was booked could have proper use. The jacuzzi was the same. A warning needs to written informing clients of the long drop getting in the jacuzzi. Another guest fell into the jacuzzi and was lucky not to incur an injury. Receptionist staff should know the opening times of the lido as having to walk through the garden to get to it only to find it closed was not ideal I a bath robe. Also not knowing it was available to use without having to book a treatment would have been helpful. It would have been nice to have the door hook in the bathroom and a better sink.

The continental breakfast was better than expected. However I think they could provide some eggs boiled or scrambled as the current protein options are salty.

The family rooms are located in a very old looking area of the hotel. The room I stayed in was mostly OK. It did need painting and refresh. I understand there is not an endless pot of money

Location was great, the staff are always helpful and polite. The main hotel is very nice.
