This isn't really a fair reflection on hotel the breakfast choice was limited but for good fiscal reasons if you think it through.

My heart goes out to these properties for similar money people seem to prefer staying in generic collection of boxes, this building has so much charisma the rooms, public areas not to mention garden.

A buzzer in the staff quarters might alert the receptionist that a customer was waiting more effectively than the traditional pinger bell on the counter.

Arrived late so no one was available to help with my bags, not good with a bad back. Shower was a bit small for a larger person. Decor in the bedroom was a little tired with scuff marks on the walls. Lighting was a bit too bright for me in the bedroom

Bedroom was comfortable, Good shower if a little small. Plenty of storage. Friendly staff. Beautiful building and gardens. Breakfast was nice, I had a continental option with yogurt, fruit and juice. Cereal was also available. Travelled alone but felt safe and secure in my room. Good value for money.

The bedroom,although clean and comfortable was looking tired and this was also true of the en suite bathroom.It would benefit from a rolling programme of general updating. That said i will stay again next time i'm in the area.

Impressive Victorian mansion in pleasant surroundings,public areas well presented,friendly,efficient staff,great breakfast,comfortable bed and an all round positive experience and i would happily return.

Our room had some damp a cobweb was hanging from the ceiling and coffee stains on the walls and scurting boards

Faded splendour in my bedroom, the kettle lead didn’t reach to the socket but trivial compared to the graciousness and friendliness of staff. I’m going back asap. I have a suspicion that the rooms are undergoing a gentle makeover both that it will deter me from returning.

The decor of the room is rather shabby and dated but this is far outweighed by the wonderful setting and great staff.

Everything was fine. Water pipes were a bit noisy and do note that there are quite a lot of stairs and heavy doors to negotiate if you are up in a top room and have a lot of luggage...just comes with being in an old building though!

Not enough staff in the evening - one person running the bar and the restaurant. In our room not really enough space for twin beds.

Since there is no airconditioning, the rooms were a bit stuffy but you get used to it after a while. In one of the rooms we stayed in, the TV was a small old one.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Always served with a smile. The breakfast was fantastic. My children said its the best they have eaten!

Ate in each day - enjoyed the dinner, although the pudding I had on the first day (strawberry meringue (I didn't have a pudding the next day)) was quite basic. Nice beer on tap. Very interesting highly decorated windows up the grand staircase
