Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThe beds are quite small—not meant for two people who are not a couple or aren’t comfortable sleeping squished together.
Very cute and clean. Parking was very accessible. Had everything we needed.

GermanyThe apartment was more than amazing: from its location to its amenities, its the perfect base to explore Edinburgh in all its glory. The Cottage offers both a washing machine as well as a full-functioning kitchen. It is only a 3-minute walk away from the shore, which itself offers both amazing (seafood) restaurants, as well as an amazing view. Overall, I will be more than happy to once again stay there in the future

AustraliaGreat location near public transport! Property has recently been renovated so even though it’s an old fisherman’s cottage it really is beautiful inside.

IrelandI don't think this warrants deducting points from our stay; The original door on the outside only opened on the left half. This could be an issue for some. We didn't have a problem with it. But would have been slightly better if it was able to open on both sides. (Maybe it could, but we didn't want to force it.)
Was very happy with the place. It was clean, welcoming, and comfortable. It had everything that we needed. It is situated near restaurants (like Rishi's next door, which was lovely) and the tram. We had an easy time getting to and from the airport and the city centre. Staying on this side of town also let us more easily explore this area and its surrounds which was well worth it. I would stay here again and would recommend it.

AustraliaThe bed in the second room was a bit uncomfortable. And would have appreciated some milk for the tea. But other than that, it was such a great stay!
Such a cute cottage!! Great location, close to public transport. But only a 15 min Uber into the city. It was so well decorated. We particularly loved the bath!

United KingdomThe TV on the wall in the bedroom is pointless as it does not turn enough to be watched in bed 🙄. The extractor fan in the bedroom runs too long. 15 minutes everytime the light is switched on wakes everyone up at night.
The property was spotless and secure. Everything we needed thanks

United KingdomYou do have to be very quiet as neighbours are right beside you, but that is to be expected.
Great location for a quiet stay. Small but very clean and cosy. Plenty of clean towels and toileteries. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and ingredienta..Great access to the city centre via the tram system which is very good value for money! Bart was very helpful and responsive.

United KingdomThe TV reception wasn't great and the reception kept pixelating during the short periods we watched TV. The plug in the bathroom sink doesn't seal properly so a filled sink of water drains away too quickly. Neither of the above are deal breakers however. Other than these minor points, the flat is perfect in every way.
The cottage is beautiful and has everything needed for a home from home stay. It was immaculately clean. The beds were super-comfortable. There are all the mod cons you could need including dish washer tablets and all the other basics required for a stay. I think the owner has thought of everything. The photographs on Booking.com are truly representative of the accommodation. I'm at a loss as to to how the owner could possibly improve the accommodation. The Newhaven tram stop is only 2 minutes walk away so it's very easy to get into central Edinburgh or just spend some time in Leith. There's a large Asda supermarket nearby for your food and drink needs. We were awestruck with this little cottage flat and wished we had stayed longer. We would stay again without any hesitation especially owing to the ease of access by car and the plentiful free residents' parking outside the property.

United KingdomLiterally can't think of anything to complain about - we loved it! Wish I could move in permanently.
The cottage had everything we needed and much, much more. The host really has thought of every little detail. Location is fab for exploring the local area by foot, and bus stops and tram stop are nearby for easy access to the city centre. The beds were both really comfy and the spa bath was a very welcome addition at the end of a long road trip.

The place is well furnished with such a cosy vibe. Just across the street, there are some amazing restaurants and store for fresh seafood where I could buy and cook my own dishes. Also there is ASDA in a walking distance. Plus a few steps to the bus station could get me to the heart of Edinburgh city. The tram station is a few minutes away if walking. Truly amazing place to stay! The host was super supportive and responsive with well thought way to support during the stay. I accidentally locked the door with the key inside the house. The host picked up my call so fast with instant well managed way for me to get spare key to get in the house.
