How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Location ( in the heart of the old city, 5 minutes away from the castle on foot) and attention to detail in the apartment: everything you need inside, perfectly working heating and equipment.

A second blanket would have been great. I was travelling with my daughter and would have liked to use the sofabed in the living room ( a reason I booked the partment for 4 with two rooms to sleep in ) - so that we could both have our space. This was not possible because there was only one blanket and it was too cold to sleep without blanket. This way we couldn´t fully use the apartment as planned ( and what we budgeted the higher price for )
The apartment is very central-great location, yet quiet There is everything you need in the kitchen, the bedroom is cosy. Getrting te key ( in a keybox) was uncomplicated .

Quite noisy in the night but it didn’t last for long

Toilet wasn’t flushing properly, no microwave - just oven. Would have been nice to have some complementary tea and coffee for people who stay short period of time

The lock box combination was incorrect and it was a couple stressful hours contacting the right person We were then given two more wrong numbers until one worked

It is located on the 3rd floor of the building without lift. The bath compartment need some improvements, as water leaks out to bathroom floor after each person bath.
Location is rather near Edinburgh Waverley Station, about 15 minutes' walk with luggage(walking a longer way to avoid many staircases along the way). Walking distance to Edinburgh City Centre, with eatery/restaurants and small supermarket nearby. Apartment is comfortable overall. Double Bed and sofa bed are comfortable. Kitchen is big. The extra bedding for sofa bed is stored under the longer side of the "L" shape sofa. Staff response is good. When we arrived, found a hot water tap in the bathroom was loose, and got bulb not lighted, they responded fast. And also allowed us to have late 12pm check out.

I would update the pictures in the guest manual to better depict the apartment. The pictures made it look like the front of a different apartment, because the plants and planters have been removed. Also, we were given the wrong code to the lockbox and it took a long time for Booking to be given the correct code. They kept insisting the one we were given was right and then after about 30 minutes they gave two other codes to try. One of them worked.
The location was close to the train station that we walked to the apartment. For the most part it is quiet, but there were people walking past at the early hours of the morning (1 or 2am) that would talk a bit loud down the paths. It was warm so we had the windows open though. It was decorated so cute and bright! It was very clean. Even though it is a one bedroom, the living room can be used as a bedroom since it has a door that can be closed. The only issue would come if the people staying in the actual bedroom wanted to be in the living room to watch tv and didn't act like it was a bedroom to give the person staying in there their privacy. For us it worked to use as a bedroom.

the sofa bed should be fixed and one single duvet should be made available for the third person sleeping on the sofa.
I love how the property is so central and just few minutes walk from the lovely grass market. also, if you are a youngster there are lots of clubs around. the property was clean and spacious!

Booked for four people, the sofa bed wasn’t made up nor was there any bedding for it. It was also quite dirty so not pleasant to sleep on. We were also only given two towels for four people. I did try and contact but didn’t get a response. Upstairs neighbours were also quite loud, but I know that can’t be helped.
on the whole a lovely flat which is newly renovated. great location to the city, only a couple of mins walk

No bread knife! I bought one. The location is convenient and if approached from the high street, pleasant. However coming from cowgate it is very unpleasant. I didn't feel safe. The square residents are obviously managing a problem with antisocial behaviour, there were notices everywhere. I was glad the flat was secure and none of the windows opened on to the balcony. Speaking of which, this is a balcony access flat, not a flat 'with balcony' that is misleading, the balcony is how you get in not a private facility and not an asset.
Very clean, large warm and comfortable . Well supplied kitchen (mostly!) Convenient location.

The property was booked for 4 people. However 2 accommodate in the master bedroom and there is a sofa bed for 2, which was not comfortable. Lenins provided for sofa beds were dirty and smelly. If booking is allowed for 4 people, the accessories are only kept for 2, which was a hassle specially for towels. No showe gel in bathroom.
The location of the property is very good. The house is good.
