I didn’t like that the rooms weren’t soundproof. I could hear everyone clearly when they walked past our room and even sometimes in their own rooms. A more solid door might have helped this. For the standard of accommodation, the bed wasn’t very comfortable. I struggled to sleep on the first night as my pillow was hard. (I think it was a feather pillow, which feels soft at first until it packs down) I swapped with my husband after that as each of the 4 pillows were a bit different. (Yay for 4 pillows!) Our ensuite had a huge separate bath. In fact it was so big I couldn’t really enjoy it as I kept slipping down! I guess this is both a positive and negative. My husband had a bath every night I think. There was no airconditioning. Not a problem while we were there, but might be in summer. A little fan was kept in the wardrobe. I guess that’s what would be used. There is no fridge in the room. We found that to be a common thing in the UK, but not what we are used to in Australia.

An extensive continental breakfast buffet was set out every morning, plus the included option of cooked dishes as ordered. Barista coffee was included, not just brewed coffee. The toiletries were of quality, and smelt amazing! Although we had the lowest room type, it was still spacious, with beautiful decor. I loved the luxurious atmosphere of the hotel. It was like stepping back in time to an era of decadence. Beautiful and eclectic decor, with a large lounge area to meet with friends. Extensive and separate bar. The indoor heated pool and spa were large. I didn’t see the gym but photos indicate it was well equipped. My husband used the sauna but it was crowded with other people so he didn’t stay long. The staff in all areas were exceptional, from reception to dining and housekeeping. They were attentive, professional and friendly. We ate dinner at the restaurant twice. The menu was creative, service efficient and friendly. A little pricey, but in keeping with the location I guess. Canned water was provided in room every day, as well as yummy biscuits and tea/coffee amenities in room. Luxurious large towels and bathrobes add to the feel of luxury.

The only thing which would be really useful is a ring to tie dog leads to the decking/patio. We ended up using the patio door handle which wasnt ideal.

Everything was amazing, the hotel, food, staff, and we were blown away by how dog friendly it is. We were getting married locally and decided to extend our time in Cornwall by staying here as well and it was simply amazing and we will definitely be returning for anniversary celebrations 🥰

As stated above my room was very good but the room my kids had did smell a little damp. This didn't bother them but I am a bit more sensitive. But for this it would have been 9/10.

Very attentive staff, good breakfast, rooms dated but everything works and is of high quality, great location with easy parking etc,, nice pool, sauna and jacuzzi etc. Good restaurant and lounge area with board games etc. Bar also has a good selection.

The hotel was very popular and was obviously valued by the local community - It had a lot of events taking place that brought people in. The staff worked hard to ensure all events were delivered to a good standard. The room was very clean and had everything we needed, replenished every day, the bathroom looked as though it had been recently updated, great shower and deep bath, plenty of hot water. Clean sheets and towels. The rest of the room was a little tired, stains on the carpet and tired furnishings; but still comfortable. We were at the back of the hotel so it was nice and quiet. The main problem was the bed! Old sprung mattress that had sunk in the middle, and very uncomfortable. One night would have been okay but four nights was not great. We did try turning the mattress over but it was rock hard. I did politely ask at reception to look into this for me and was reassured that they would ask housekeeping to see if there was something they could do. Unfortunately they did not get back to us and I was busy going to work from the hotel and travelling around Cornwall. So I did end up sleeping in a sunken mattress for four days. When we checked out I did raise this as a concern, the receptionist apologised and said that she had spoken to housekeeping and also found us another room which was a much better room, but she had forgotten to follow it up with us. I recognise that they are very busy and part time staff come and go at different times so not always easy to keep a tab on things. she did apologise for the over sight. The rest of the hotel was again a little bit tired but comfortable. The restaurant food was okay, if you stuck with the pub food such as steak and chips or fish and chips. They did have other options such as braised pork porchetta, with sweet pomme puree but it was a little bit tasteless. I feel that they need to commit to a menu, either have good pub food or commit to providing good speciality food

The staff were excellent, it is because of their hard work that the hotel might be seen as a four star, they were so attentive and hardworking and very friendly, especially the bar staff and the staff working in the restaurant. Everything worked like clockwork. The breakfast was excellent and the spa well organised and clean. This is a comfortable well worn hotel that you can relax in after being out and about. Very convenient for seeing Cornwall and all its beautiful coast line.
