Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing. We loved both Lewes and this delightful cottage for your stay
The cottage is located in a lovely quiet cul-de-sac, in a delightful and distinctive part of Lewes, away from the centre, yet only a 10 minute walk away from the heart of the town (5 minutes if you hop on the regular bus service). The period cottage itself is very spacious inside with both a conservatory and a small courtyard with outside table and chairs. It has an excellent kitchen and very good bathroom. Within a minute or two’s walk from the cottage are two delightful pubs and a lovely small coffee bar called ‘Hannah’s’. If you wish to stay just outside the busy centre of Lewes in a lovely part of Lewes but within easy walking distance of the centre, I highly recommend this property.

It was a lovely stay in the cottage which was clean, well equipped and a really comfy bed and sofa bed. The host was friendly and helpful with good advice. The cottage was in the perfect location to explore Lewes and Brighton with direct buses and trains regularly into Brighton.

United KingdomNothing.
Absolutely beautifully decorated with such a vibrant and cosy feel. We loved everything about it! Joanne is a fabulous host and you could not want for more. This will be our 'go to' place to stay when in East Sussex. Lovely touches, excellent communication. Lovely location opposite the bus stop to Brighton. We enjoyed trips to Seven Sisters Country Park and Cuckmere Cove, where we hired bikes to ride down to beach and through Friston Forest. We took a fab boat trip to Seven Sisters from Newhaven Marina, Branching Out Adventures zipwires and high ropes, Brighton most days, Lewes Castle and Virginia Woolf's Monk's House. Recommend all these. Tea Garden too in Lewes for an afternoon tea. Loads of great places to eat locally.

United KingdomNo parking at property although ok to drop off luggage. County hall car park very convenient but have to pay to park from 8am. Minor inconvenience that wouldn’t stop me visiting again
It was clean and had everything I needed. Attention to detail made it special, ie boxes of tissues in the rooms, gift of chocolates, biscuits, milk and wine. Host was on hand to answer messages and made me feel welcomed. Good location for visiting many great places not too many miles away.

United KingdomEverything was perfect!
We love everything about this place! It is so comfortable and clean and Joanne really goes far beyond any other host to ensure that you have the best stay - her attention to detail and thoughtfulness is really special. This is the second time that we have stayed here and it is now the only place that we will stay when we come down to Brighton. This is also the only place that we have ever stayed that we have been able to give 10/10 for (for the second time!).

United StatesThe only problem we ran into was that we had access to only one key. When we left on separate trips, we used the lock box to leave the key for the first to return.
The location was perfect. Everything worked as it should. It was a very nice place to call home during our stay in Lewes.

United KingdomIn the evenings it was a bit chilly for us--it would have been great if there was control for the heating. Not having the ability to start the heating was the only downside for us at this place.
We went to Lewes on a personal visit for a couple of days. This was a lovely little cottage, it was in a very central location yet very quiet. We loved it. It had everything--natural light, air, freshness, cleanliness, and all the mod cons. The wi-fi was very good and mobile phone signal strength (which I required from time to time) was also very good. The parking was also not far. [Though the council needs to improve the lighting in that parking lot]. All in all it was a very pleasant stay.

United KingdomIt was unfortunate that we couldn't park in the cul de sac. We had to park in a nearby car park, which fortunately was free overnight but you had to pay from 8àm to 5pm every day.
This is a lovely property, very tastefully decorated, furnished and equipped. It's a short walk into the town centre. We appreciated the welcome pack on arrival and all the information provided on arrival.
