How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Nothing really!
Excellent, comfortable, well equipped room. Great breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location for town centre, railway station and St George's Hall. Great price (mid week rates?). Will stay again.

Beds very noisy if you're turning it was bad. No sound proof on the halls . Their was a door goes to another from our room that wasn't good, we were hearing them talking like we were in the same room.

Building needs a lot of maintenance and this shows in places but much better than characterless modern builds.
Grand Hotel in the old style. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Excellent cooked breakfast.

The bed was a bit hard my hips hurt through night. I felt a bit uncomfortable .some people like it like that. But too hard for me
The breakfast was lovely cooked and good variety of it the room was lovely warm bathroom was spotless clean .the lady on the reception when we arrived was ofr west Indian origin she was lovely so helpful and very polite

its really noisy creeky floors you can hear everyone walk past! room was very dusty which is a shame because they are really nice!

Car park now £5 a day for residents.. Card details required on check £50 taken returnable but can take several days Hot water slow to come through in bathroom But overall a good experience and quite a quality hotel. Have used before and will again

Coffee at breakfast was awful (food was nice) Lack of soya milk (it had gone off) No decaf tea bags or soya milk provided in the room Water wouldn't stay in the bath! I think the plug is broken TV was wasn't really very good - lack of channels & slow to move between channels - not all free view channels available. Sadly some poor quality decor (walls in the room) Door to bathroom jammed (needs to be plained) It was very warm despite window open and radiator off I still think that the general vibe of the hotel and staff offsets these small complaints.
Staff were lovely and very helpful I did like the hotel and felt very comfortable here. Good location

See criticism above regarding coffee. Bereakfast provide good choice although some of the hot foods not 'hot' - no doubt as self service depends on when you get your breakfast. Could have told guests that Fried eggs avaible on request, as I am not a great lover of Scrambled eggs.
Room clean and comfortable. Only criticism was lack of Coffee provided only 2 sachets for 2 perople. Decaffinated is NOT coffee, just an excuse for it. Bathroom excellent refurbishing shower easy to use,and extremely clean.

Musky smell it was horrid. Bath was dated. Deposit to be paid of £50 at reception to be refunded. Lots of hairs in the bathroom

The room seemed recently refurbished but equally there were a lot of scuffs and dust. The TV had minimal channels, BBC2 and Ch5, but no BBC1 or ITV1? I wasn't offered any breakfast on check-in with my room-only booking or knew it was available.
The room had all the facilities I needed, including tea making facilities and a bath. The building is lovely and room was sizeable for the price.

There's a daily parking charge of £5 per night. Also, you have to pay a holding deposit of £50 which will be returned within 15 days.
