The contact with the hotel is very bad both by telephone and getting responses to emails

The stay was as expected but it is taking such a long time to obtain a VAT invoice. As we booked using the company credit card our Accounts Dept are chasing for the invoice and we have be unable to contact the property.

The hotel was very scruffy and in need of total renovation. Rotting window frames, old fashioned furnishings, threadbare carpets. No one on reception - you had to phone.

The location was perfect. Very central and great views It was warm and comfortable. When you got the owner, he was very helpful.

The inn/hotel was not an operating as an inn and had no bar working or restuarant (which included no breakfast option). The rooms were little tired. A bit expensive for what you get, but Lerwick is expensive.

The room and the included view was excellent.

The place is very dated, holes in the ceiling, nothing open in the hotel, reception can be contacted by phone only. It was expensive for the standard of the hotel, but it was Up Helly Aa.

What didn't we like....well this one is easier to answer! I booked it because there was very little else available for 3 people. Everyone we told that we were staying at the Queens had a sharp intake of breath as their reaction! So to be fair, we went with low expectations. With that we walked in without any pre-conceived notions of grandeur! As a result, we weren't disappointed! The foyer is greatly in need of renovation, the reception isn't manned - theres a phone and a mobile number to call to get some help. The corridors are fairly dated and paint is peeling in places, but again, it would have been grand in it's hay day! The rooms were clean and comfortable, but paint was peeling in windows. There is no customer service at all, someone did meet us for towels, but we saw no-one for the duration of the stay. We were there for work, so we didn't mind, and work had paid the high cost - if I'd paid that myself for a stay in a run down hotel, I'd have been pretty hacked off!

What did we like...? The rooms were comfortable and clean and you can tell that once upon a time, this would have been a hotel fit for a queen! The view was spectacular, we were up early each morning and watching the sun rise over Bressay with Northlink sailing past when the water was like a Millpond brought the experience up from one of severe disappointment into something more out of this world! The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and we slept well.

We arrived to an empty reception area and nobody to check us in. We did manage to connect with someone who did immediately come to our assistance. The hotel was wide open at all times with no one at the desk for security. We would stay again but security was an issue for me. We were in and out many time through the day and night so did get an idea of what was happening.

We loved the location of the hotel and that our room overlooked the water. The room itself was comfortable and for our purposes fine. We have stayed in many older hotels and that is not an issue for us. We do understand that a great deal of work is being done. In our 4 days at the hotel, we did see 2 hotel workers and they were accommodating and courteous..

The staff were there( albeit they were very nice when they were present) fleetingly at best. Nothing in the hotel was open. Couldn't adjust the shower head as it basically fell apart when you tried.

it was in a brilliant location and when I inadvertently originally booked the wrong dates they kindly changed the dates for me. Very appreciated. They did have a partner hotel ( The Grand)up the road where we had a fantastic breakfast every morning. The staff were brilliant there as well. Also had a good bar.

Decor is outdated but the hotel was very clean. Nobody on reception but there was a phone number to ring by the front door. Needs to serve food and drinks as the walk to the Grand Hotel for breakfast wouldn’t be pleasant in adverse weather. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Location is great, no breakfast or room service available in the hotel but we were offered breakfast in the Grand hotel, the breakfast there was good. Water was lovely and hot for a bath. Staff friendly and accommodating. All in all it was a pleasant stay and suited our needs for the night.

There is no one there at reception and it can be difficult to get hold of the manager. He didn’t appear at the hotel until after the check in time displayed on booking.com Due to delays across the whole system my room still needed to be cleaned and it was not available until 2 hours after my expected check in time. There is a lack of staff needed. The hotel was generally dated e.g. the toilet roll holder was all rusted and the taps were very difficult to turn off again.

The location is very convenient and I had a gorgeous sea view from my window. The room was basic but clean. There was a convenient heater in the room which heated the room up very quickly.
