I booked two rooms and unfortunately, the air-con in neither room was working due to an issue with the chillers. However, the receptionist was apologetic and got the engineer to override the system to cool it down for us. Lastly, I found most of the equipment in the gym was either broken or out of order. Despite the above, I would still revisit the property!

The property is located very close to the city centre with a beautiful view of the castle and the river. The staff members at the reception, gym, restaurant and housekeeping were all very friendly and informative. The rooms were spacious and very clean. I enjoyed relaxing at the property by making use of the swimming pool, steam and sauna rooms.

That the hot air kept turning on and heating the room to no end whenever I put the keycard in. Ordered food and got raw chicken.

We were looking forward to a swim on arrival but couldn’t get in as it was full.

Small things maybe but they can accumulate. Blood or chocolate stain on curtains in Room 536 (I hope!). Tiny bathroom. Staff encountered were not rude but not particularly warm or friendly: passive aggressive receptionist and surly man on spa desk. Swimming pool male changing room floor filthy - it was also very cramped and in need of some work.

The setting in the city centre was good. The room was spacious.

The entrance to the car park and the roadways within the car park are very narrow - not something which can be changed, but take care. There was no coffee machine in my room, just a kettle and sachets of instant coffee (but there was a good coffee machine at breakfast).

Good location, value for money, with good on site parking and health facilities (which I did not have time to use, but they looked impressive). The room was quiet and spacious with a good desk (albeit the chair with the desk was a little past its best).

There are no fridges in the rooms (even a small one). There is a car park but you have to pay for anything over 15 minutes. It world be great to have free parking for guests.

The key did not work so had to return to reception and when inside the room noticed no robes or slippers called reception and was told to return again and collect them… after a conversation they delivered them.

Food in the bar and restaurant was awful and it's lost it's appeal. We used to use this hotel when it first opened, it's now tired and lacks any appeal. The mattress in the room was lumpy and uncomfortable.

Location is excellent, short walking distance into Durham centre. Loads of nice restaurants and bars around. Staff were excellent also - very welcoming, all very friendly. It was a pleasure.

1 - I missed when booking that the parking was not the hotels. I wouldn't normally book anywhere I couldn't park my car outside the hotel. On this occasion it worked. For me, it would have ruined my stay had there not been a parking slot available. 2 - I completed the booking form and it asked for the lead occupant of the 2nd room. After that all communication, on my email address, was addressed to her. That is just plain annoying.

My only complaint was the beds were hard and the spa has seen better days. Dirty steam room, murky pool and usual problem with the whirl pool. Needed anti foamer put in
