Unclean carpets with long hair evident.

Good sized rooms. In centre of town yet easy to reach by car. Free parking. Clean and comfortable beds. Effort has clearly been made to decorate and update. Lift access to upper floors. Close to places to eat.

Got a room upgrade, because there was sediment coming out of the cold tap and the water colour was yellow in the bath. Receptionist was helpful and had us in a new room quite quickly. So all good in the end.

We couldn't go as my wife fell ill. So my 20+ grandson and partner went in our stead. Location was great, staff were great as well. Parking was good.

The mattress topper on bed didn't fit quite right .

Rooms and hotel are quite old. The whole hotel smells like mold. I have asked for an early check in and they wouldn't tell me if that would be possible. I understand that they don't have to offer it but the night before your booking they should know if there is possible to have an early check in and response properly.

The room was very specious. Very large bed and big and clean bathroom.

No restaurant for lunch or dinner. No longer any residents' lounge to speak of. Bar area very unwelcoming and no longer used by locals.

Location is perfect. Rooms are warm, clean and comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly. Breakfast is excellent I never stay anywhere else in Basingstoke.

The walls are really thin, you could hear what was happening in the next room to the extreme, ie coughing, sneezing and even switching on/off lights. The bed was really soft and it had a slight musty smell to it.

The location was perfect and the staff were really friendly. The shower was perfect and the room size was really good.

The central location meant that it was a bit noisy on a Friday night. Fortunately, I'd requested a quiet room, which was positioned on the 2nd floor and towards the rear of the building (overlooking the car park). I was aware of some noise during the night, but I was wearing ear plugs, so still enjoyed a decent nights sleep. A bottle of water in the room would have been appreciated.

The hotel is centrally located, so very easy to walk to restaurants and bars. It's also very close to Festival Place (for shopping). The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I was pleased to find that the fittings in the bath included a standard shower and a 'rainfall' shower. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Not being made aware that the front bar was not associated with the red lion. On arrival I had asked about having a small get together in the bar,, they said it wouldn't be a problem- when our friends arrived it was too busy and we had to leave to go else where. Had I known this we would have booked elsewhere. The bathroom in the room was not very clean (dirty bath, sink)

The lady at reception was nice and welcoming. She made a point during breakfast having noticed I had only paid for the children that had she known I wasn't eating she wouldn't have charged full price as the children were never going to eat the same as an adult.

Two minor comments. Twin room beds - both mattresses were a bit too soft and bouncy, so not best for comfort. The smoked bacon for breakfast (never been smoked before) rather spoilt the taste of an otherwise excellent breakfast.

Quiet, easy to reach, plenty of free parking, convenient location, clean and comfortable setting.

The room smelt stale. Could have been cleaner. The room had no view. It’s a shame no one told us that scaffolding was being put up out side our room windows. Noise of scaffolding being erected, until it was too dark to them to work.

The property was close to where we needed to get to. The staff were very friendly. It was quite overnight.

Friendly staff, very clean room, excellent choice and quality of food for breakfast. A good position in the town centre for the Anvil, and even closer for the Haymarket.
