A bit of a warren due to the age of the property.

Great hotel with it’s own pub / restaurant, breakfast excellent location off the A1, handy for overnight stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will stay again.

The room was very overheated and difficult to turn down or off: The bathroom was very new with excellent shower but the towel-rail was impossible to access although luckily my partner is tall but if on my own I would have had to call reception. The mirror over the basin was placed to high for me to use it! I am 5.2. No heated towel rail or place to hang hand towel!

The bed could have been a bit more comfy and the heating system could have been turned on as it is incased in a box so I had to dismantle it to turn the heat on.

The bar area itself is not that welcoming I think, unless you're with a group. And the selection of drinks (in particular cider) was not impressive. And the barman did not really listen to my drinks order, so although I got a JD & diet juice, it was not in a large glass like I asked for, so a tad on the strong side for me. I'd expect a hotel like this to have at least one USB sockets in the room

This place is in a really lovely setting, and the guy at the front desk immediately made us hugely welcome and looked after us SO well. He really went above and beyond. We'd forgotten our UK USB charger and he charged our phones for us at reception using his own personal charger. He also helped us with directions of what the path was like to a local pub we wanted to visit. When we came back to the hotel later and got drinks, he mentioned to us about another lounge area we could sit, which was a wee bit nicer than the bar. Overall, along with the surroundings and how nicely the place was kept, his careful attention made our stay. As it was a wee bit away from things, we opted to get breakfast there and it was very nice, and we were well looked after

I did think the quantity of food could have been better. My steak wasn’t great, the sauce gravy with the Dianne and peppercorn mix did work.

The design, layout and executive rooms are superb.

The property had real character, with well appointed rooms and a friendly team of staff. A lovely breakfast with a wide and varied selection.

The carpets, unfortunatly just looked grubby/old/dirty and pulling up at the eges and tatty. Also, there was a powercut at breakfast so no fresh breakfast available and although paid extra for breakfast no compensation offered.

Hotel looks very grand from the outside, beautiful grounds in stunning location. Internal decor very inkeeping and vintage. Loved the layout of our room and the decor however it did need a little spruce up. The breakfast had oodles of choice hot and cold, best breakfast choices iv seen at a hotel. All staff friendly and helpfull.

There was nothing we didn’t “like” as we have stayed before. A room of that quality could maybe do with bathrobe’s, slippers and more toiletries especially soap/bath gel.

Having to walk through a wedding to the room was strange. When we booked it would have been great to know that a private event was being held.

We visited DIY kitchens from Kent, this hotel was perfect. The food in the restaurant is excellent! Do book a table.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, both were exceptional with very good choice. Our room was very comfortable and spacious.

Breakfast was very good with a wide selection to choose from. The night before, we didn't want a big meal so shared an excellent pizza. The bar snacks are a good alternative to a big meal. Our bedroom was very comfortable and quiet. Clean countryside air was free.

Our only complaint would be the air conditioning unit in our room was very noisy - so we had to switched it off despite the hot weather.

We loved sitting on the patio, outside the conservatory, with our pre-dinner drinks, looking out over the garden, which was beautiful. The meals we ate during our visit (breakfast and dinner) were very nice (the servings were very generous). All the staff were very welcoming, helpful, and friendly throughout our stay.

The breakfast

The room was absolutely stunning, but the down sides were the tea tray, for the price of the room you’d expect a better choice and then the buffet breakfast, there was lots of choice but the hot breakfast choices were lukewarm and didn’t really reach my expectations for a luxury hotel
