Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOur second visit, rather disappointed The service was very slow. Waited an hour for lunch. Missed our slot for the spa so it was rearranged. Room wasn't ready and cleaned in a rush so wasn't as spotless as expected expecially in the bathroom. Rooms a little tired. Small doubles bed. Cute being a four poster but these days people expect a king or super king for the price paid.
The setting is amazing. Spa is amazing.

United KingdomWifi is poor. The staff say it's because its an old building - they just need to buy boosters. Rigid on checkin about applepay (systems need to be modernised)

United KingdomThough we didn’t pay for a spa day, as access to the facilities were included within our stay, we wouldn’t have done so on the basis of the small facilities in comparison to others we have visited. The food at the restaurant, although tasty, was a little small and left us feeling a little disappointed. Not too many things that we didn’t like, however given the price, we would be expecting a little more from the hotel.
The hotel is a beautiful building set in a very nice countryside location. The room was very nice, well decorated and very comfortable. The pool and sauna/steam room were modern and enjoyable, albeit a little over crowded. The Cocktails were very nice at the bar. Generally a nice and pleasant experience staying at Ruston Hall.

United Kingdom£30 a head for breakfast - I had a cup of coffee and my son a bowl of rice krispies - £60 .......
I like everything until I was charged £30 a head for breakfast - staff were delightful - everything was really nice but the cost of the breakfast put me on my arse. I would go again, without question but I would leave and get a cup of coffee elsewhere

United KingdomWhen there’s a wedding on not enough facilities as we need to wait for glasses for drinks and well over hour and a half to be able to go into the restaurant, even though it was booked. Then put into side room not happy with that !

United KingdomWe paid extra for an upgraded room but it was smaller than it stayed on the website. When we questioned it, we were told the one on the website is bigger but it wasn’t available. The website is misleading which lead to disappointment.

United KingdomWe were woken up at 5:30am to the ceiling leaking during heavy rain, was evidence of previous water damage. Was offered to swap room but wasnt worth it as we would be up for breakfast at 7am. However couldnt get back to sleep afterwards so was very tired. Didnt kick up a fuss as we were only staying 1 night, just not ideal, especially for our first stay. Asked reception staff for clarification if breakfast is included or costs extra. Lad on reception said it was included, but we were charged £20 each. If he clarified that I wouldn't have had breakfast as i wouldn't say it was worth it for myself, it was ideal for my partner though. Assumed it must have been miscommunication.
Lovely room set up, friendly staff, incredible building and surroundings. Would return again.

United KingdomThere was a lack of professionalism and expertise amongst the staff. Most perfectly fine but certainly a lack of polish. Receptionist on arrival rather flat and uninterested in her role. Odd experiences, like the bar manager being unable to make a Martini and no-one serving in the dining room who appeared to have any expertise in wine. Food was fine but no great shakes. A slightly run-down feel overall.
A stunning, historically fascinating, stately home now a hotel. Its appearance on arrival takes the breath away. Lovely spa pool and outdoor area.
