Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

SwitzerlandThe location is wonderful just outside town but close enough to walk. The hotel is very clean and beautifully decorated. Prices are competitive. I stay here on all my visits to Edinburgh. The junior suite upstairs is very large with a huge bathroom. The standard rooms are furnished well, a bit on the small side and I found they are not very sound proof. The doors have a small space between the door and the frame which lets in sound, a draught and the corridor light. Generally very pleased with the hotel.

A nice old Victorian house. I had a nice room with a separate small working area. The wash room with a shower was nice and clean. The double bed was big an comfortable. The staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast was served in a nice stylish restaurant. There was a buffet as well as several warm options to order, I went for the Full Scotish Breakfast. It was great. There is a nice trust bar on the ground floor.

United KingdomThe room was very cold - we came in October where it was sometimes as low as 2 degrees during the night and sadly the hotel has no insulation and despite trying to heat our room all our stay it was very cold during the night. We asked reception for an extra blanket, which helped a bit but it was still quite cold. The view from the room. We were given a room with a quite poor view - room 22. Perhaps we were just unlucky but the window was overlooking the passage and the sister hotel the scholar, which unfortunately isn’t very pretty to look at. We have received an attic room although I did request a non-attic room on booking.
Located in the beautiful and charming building All the common areas are absolutely gorgeous, the honesty bar is amazing to go for a drink and listen to some calming music. We didn’t have breakfast but the, room for the breakfast was great as well. A huge bonus for us was the complimentary coffee (with a quality coffee machine) and tea offered in the common areas, which you could also take-away from which was incredibly convenient for us.

CanadaOne issue: we had an early tour and asked at check in if a boxed breakfast was possible. The young woman said, of course no problem and we agreed for 7 am. Later that evening I asked, the same clerk, if there would be water bottles with the boxed breakfast and she assured me there would be water. The next morning, at 7, the woman running reception had no idea we needed a boxed breakfast, so it seemed. She had many clients to juggle, and wanted to help us. She managed to package something, yet without water. She asked for help, and someone fetched a few water bottles. Not sure where/how this fell through the cracks. But since giving up on your beautiful breakfast is a loss, the boxed lunch concept should be quality and processed better. Thanks.
