How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It is on top of a club. Very noisy overnight, even using my earplugs it was difficult to sleep.
It was very cheap compared to other accomodation around and I needed only a one night stay.

Only one hob was working in the kitchen and the room was incredibly hot at night.

Location so central couldn't help but have some noise from happy people in the town.
We were well received and our private room was basic but ok.

You needed to pay for towels The bathroom was quite dirty, and the shower Handel was broken, so you needed to hold the shower head yourself
Very close to the city center and Brighton pier. Nice rooms and beds.

It’s above walkabout! So can be loud. The rooms could do with updating. Like the curtains were hanging down from the hooks.

Noisy, pricey for what it is and staff didn’t know anything. Asked if they did breakfast and if so what time and the guy on reception didn’t have a clue saying ‘you’ll have to ask at reception because this isn’t it’ yet that was the reception where I checked in. As well as this on checkout day I asked to store luggage and another guy said there is no room, I opened the store cupboard and there were still shelves free, all I have was a small dolly trolley case

Radiator was too hot for the night so we couldn't sleep, very dirty bathroom, super uncomfortable mattresses and beds. Noises from other rooms.
The price but it could be better. And the location was fantastic.

Guests coughed a lot in a large dorm.Maybe it has slight damp?Beds very narrow and hard to turn round in if you are on a bottom bunk.
They don’t do breakfast but Ala’s is near by for a good breakfast.Very noisy due to nightclub below.Nice en suite shower.

Room 103 overlooks rear garden of Walkabout bar below the hotel. It didn’t close until nearly 3am. We got very little sleep. Shouting, laughter & talking for hours.

No towels and no shower gel. If you want a towel, you can buy one for £6 and, having done this myself, it's very thin and pretty small. Bring a towel with you. Also, definitely bring shower gel and soap because there was no shower gel and we only had a very small amount of soap in one of the toilets and no soap in the other one.
Great location, right by the seafront and walking distance to a ton of different bars. The staff were friendly. 12 of us stayed and it was great that we were able to all be in the same room together. We had two toilets and two showers in the room which was also handy. Beds are very basic but comfortable enough for us as we were a stag group so it was literally a place to crash.

Blanket on the bed seemed as though it had not seen a washing machine in quite some time, view from the window wasn’t quite like the view from the shard - although nothing wrong with a few dusty apartment blocks!
Location was very convenient for stumbling home drunk, meaning no need to throw up in an Uber! Loved the fact the private rooms were in the VIP lounge - made the whole experience feel super exclusive and luxurious. The rooms even had soap and shower gel provided! Money can’t buy this kind of satisfaction.

Sadly, I booked Sat 16Sept 2023 and Sat 23 Sept 2023 and asked for a lower bunk bed. The hostel confirmed they would meet my request, but they did not bother to reserve me a lower bunk bed. Both times they did not keep one for me and the second time 23 Sept 2023, I went back home to Hastings. It was such a simple request, yet they really did not care. I even waited until 1400 hours which is the official booking in time, yet they had allowed the beds to be occupied way before this time. So so disappointing. The second time really ruined my weekend and as I have mobility issues and do not like heights, it made me so sad and anxious.
