Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomPersonnel choices, l do not like to wander about for the toilet and shower, at my age visits to the loo at night time are obligatory Prefer tea/coffee making facilities in the room, again we were told to help ourselves from the kitchen, but, do not like that idea.
The hostess was fantastic, could not of been more helpful, we would stay there again just for this lady.

United KingdomHouse was cold, but we worked out how to use the heater in our room. Shared bathroom, however on this occasion, we were the only guests, so no issue.
Harbour front, quirky, kinda opulent decor. Lorna our host was absolutely lovely! We really enjoyed chatting with her and learning about the locale. Our chosen breakfast was provided and was delicious. Comfortable bed and pillows (essential!)

United KingdomWe found it a bit difficult to find initially as there is a one way street in Helmsdale main area, but simply go down the hill on entering the fork down to the harbour and turn left onto the harbour side road for about 50 metres on the left. The room we had had a small washbasin in it ,but the modern bathroom was down the main hall ,so it could be possible to bump into another guest--either in the morning or at night if going to the toilet. There were no others there, so this was no problem for us. Lorna was extremely welcoming and showed us the kitchen/breakfast area, to come and go to help ourselves to coffee/tea /various fruit/biscuits at any time--we didn't take advantage of this-and her breakfast was really great, with fluted glasses for fruit drinks,a range of jams/marmalade and a full breakfast, cooked by her right next to you! Very homely and pleasant, at a single large round table. We travelled from John o' Groats and arrived about 8.30 p.m. so needed a meal--the Bannockburn pub up the hill ,only about five minutes from the house did excellent pub grub and there was no problem having a drink, as it was easily walkable without a car. These latter comments should be in the What we liked box above!!!
the location was right on the harbour side of the old fishing port--peaceful ,and parking was simply outside the house on the roadside. The house itself is part of a terrace of what were probably fishermen's cottages--it is a blue painted frontage with Selkie written over the front door with Song Of The Sea in small letters underneath so look for that on the left hand side.

United KingdomRoom is not en-suite and price is a bit high, but everything is expensive these days. The Song of the Sea was actually the cheapest option locally, and it was very nice!
Cozy place well located in the town of Helmsdale. Lovely host! Comfortable room and good shower. Nice common rooms with a view. Breakfast and a wide range of snacks and drinks available. I had a great stay!

United KingdomGreat to have the kitchen and cooking facilities available separately and Lorna provides a good breakfast and a very well stocked tea/coffee station with snacks & fruit. The room was cosy & comfortable and we loved being surrounded by the eclectic mix of treasures. Super location, walking distance to pubs/restaurants and shops. Fabulous sunrises over the ocean on our morning walks with dogs - who were also made very welcome. Shared bathroom wasn't an issue as there was no-one in the other room. Lovely stay - thank you! :)

AustraliaI note in other reviews that the feedback seems to ignore that this a real B&B in someone’s home. Perhaps people are getting used to purpose-built AirBnB properties that have more in common with commercial hotels. Enjoy the diversity here!
This homely B&B is located on the picturesque harbour. Lorna was helpful with access information & dining options plus she provided a fabulous breakfast.
