Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe location is worth the price of the stay alone. Having come across Borrowby Farm Cottages last year when booking a trip away with my fiance, we didn't expect to be as blown away as we were. The cottages are homely and have all the facilities needed for a short or long stay. The underfloor heating is another added bonus. Wonderful friendly hosts and a new favourite place to visit. Would 100% recommend. It's out of the way enough to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere while still being close to the coastline with Staithes.

United KingdomThis cottage is in the best location, out of the way and quiet with the best views I've ever seen...but also only a short drive from the coast. The owner Mark was really helpful and even kind enough to show us around the other cottages before we left, I would happily stay in any of them, they're all beautiful and so cosy ☺️

United KingdomBeautiful property! The views were amazing, and we had such a peace stay. Loved the fact there was a car park. Property felt secure for our little puppy too. Hosts were brilliant and let us have a later check out. Very close to shops, and close to Whitby for a day trip. Would highly recommend!

United KingdomNice quiet spot but needed the car to get to shop or place to eat . The main bed and the sofa have been well used and probably due to be replaced before the season gets going ? Hope so and then it would be perfect .
Barn conversion with the wow factor . Stunning location, stunning views, architect designed ? Really spacious layout, well equipped - and sparkling clean - would love to go back in the summer and enjoy the views from the garden across the fields to the sea.

United KingdomThe heating is via ground source heat pump which is housed under the stairs and it's loud. Unfortunately any time I awoke in the night (which I always do anyway) I struggled to get back to sleep because of the loud pulsing hum. It sounded a bit like my dishwasher starting up. Also the house was really hot. We have our heating on at 17° but the cottage was set at 21° so we tried to get it down, and managed to get it to 19°. Being a heat pump it reacts very slowly, which it's designed to do to give out ambient heat. However the heat also seems to kick out overnight so we slept with the duvet folded back. Personally I would not have the heating on at night especially as we couldn't open any windows. It was a shame because everything else about our stay was perfect.
Lovely cottage with all the facilities you'd need. Great views in a peaceful location. We brought our dog. Close to some gorgeous coastal towns. The owners left us some milk in the fridge and a box of choccies!

United KingdomJumping spiders 🕷 🤣🤣🤣 There was absolutely nothing we didn't like just wish we had booked for more than 4 days as having to be out of the cottage for 10am was a little early. But the owner was very amicable if your running late like we were. 👍
We stayed in the Spangle cottage and was just beautiful, clean and well equipped with everything needed for your stay. The views were amazing from the cottage. Although we had taken our own milk tea coffee sugar & condiments these were provided. Kitchen equipped with everything needed for making meals and the oven & micowave spotless. Also the washing machine came in very handy after muddy/beach days. Our 2 german shepherds stayed with us the location perfect for various days out so many places to visit, and they loved the long walks. The owners were welcoming and at hand if you needed anything at all. Would 100% recommended to anyone wanting the peace and tranquility of the countryside.

Stunning location, peaceful and quiet. Everything you could want in the cottage was there. My daughter and I loved eating breakfast outside on our first morning, the view was beautiful. Handy location for exploring and close enough to a shop/pub. The welcoming touches of chocolates and fresh milk was a lovely surprise and much appreciated.
