Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room was too warm, there was no A/C available other than a desk fan which was not sufficient to keep the room cool. Better A/C facilities would have made the stay a better experience.

AustraliaThe floor fan was really loud found the noise from the fan made it hard to sleep and there is no airconditioning (only heating) we did find that we needed the aircon but the only option is the fan which is loud and over bearing at times. But everything else was perfect..
Great location, friendly staff and affiliated to the George Hotel across the road which meant we could buy food and drinks and put it on your room.

United KingdomBooked as an emergency stay, camping locally and heavy rain destroyed our tent. Room very noisy outside so couldn't have the windows open. Hairdryer didn't work. Additional parking charges not explained at the time of booking nor was the £25 damages payment that is returned after your stay. It was also not explained that you need to check into a completely different hotel over the road. Difficult to find the place, sat nav took us around the back of the High Street.

United KingdomAlthough the hotel had double glazing, it didn’t block out any of the street noise. We were kept up throughout the night with the sound of music, and people shouting in the street.
It was modern, clean & centrally located. The breakfast and bar at The George were great.

United KingdomUnfortunately, I was told all feature rooms have a bath and found out this is not true during my last stay. I purposefully paid extra to be able to get a bath and did not get this, so it was very disappointing. Also, they need better pillows.
We have stayed at this hotel at least twice a year in the past 3-4 years. The location is great, the rooms are spacious and it's nice comparing to other hotels in the area.

South AfricaThere wasn't a small bar fridge in the room. It would have been nice to have laundry service, especially for the longer stay. It was very noisy at night , even with the sound proofing. Air conditioning would have been good, it was really hot in the room.
The bed was super comfortable, cleanliness was excellent, really easy access to town and shopping and beautiful Colchester Castle park.

United KingdomUnfortunately there is no air conditioning. So in the hotter months it can be a bit uncomfortable. Although there is air conditioning in the hallways.
You have to check in at The George Hotel across the road. Car parking is behind the George Hotel which is £9.50 for 24hrs. Rooms are immediately clean. Lift and stair access. Great location on the Main Street in the town centre.

EstoniaThere weren't clear instructions on how to check in. We had to check-in in at another hotel nearby, luckily another person staying at the same hotel instructed us where we should go. Also, we had to pay £25 additionally as a pre-auth which would be released after our visit - this isn't the most convenient.
The breakfast was amazing!!! We had a bit of an issue with the first room but we got really quick assistance and changed rooms. The staff is really helpful and the location is quite central. There were clubs and bars around which made it hard to sleep during the night but if you plan to go out then it's quite ideal.
