Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA late night pint would have been pleasant but no complaints. Be aware there isn't a lift. I did not eat there but the usual Tea/Coffee provisions were fine.
It was not actually the Station. It was a pub nearby. It was very handy for both the Rail Station and where I was visiting. The facilities were entirely pleasant and proper. Shower was good.

United KingdomThe place looked shut and not how it appears in the photos. I thought it was boarded up frankly but a man from the bar next door guided me to another bar 100 metres up the street to get my key. There were also printed instructions in the window. Mostly its like a hostel rather than a hotel. There are rooms only, no reception, no downstairs bar or restaurant.
It was still near the station - my main reason for booking it - although reception had moved up the road. I arrived at 930 pm.

United KingdomNo reception area. Had to phone for access to hotel and wait street side for staff to arrive although this was not long. The bathroom was in need of improvement and had one of the smallest sinks I have ever seen. My first nights sleep was challenged by water constantly and noisily falling on roofing in the inner courtyard area. This was probably due to work being done on a balcony area above. I was not unduly concerned. There have been innumerable stays when similar things have occurred.
Directly opposite the station-I had arrived by train. Centrally located. The bedroom was warm and comfortable. Clear information/instructions left.

United KingdomThe shower room was in need of a very good, deep, clean due to mould in corners from dampness. Not double glazed, so give loud with the volume of traffic. On landing a hole was in the glass window, allowing the wind to blow through into building. Really needs upgrading to improve the building.
The bedroom has been furnished nicely, very comfortable bed.. called the number as displayed in window of this property , a person was with us with keys within 2 minutes. Its no longer a pub, so no noise from pub.

United KingdomRoom was cold when I got there and took a while to warm up. The single glazed window didn't help. The Fire alarm went off at 2am, someone arrived after a few minutes to turn it off and confirmed it was a false alarm but obvs a disturbed nights sleep. It went off again just as I was checking out. Didn't see anyone sort that before I left. Minor complaint was the key to my room required a bit of jiggling to fit. Booked last minute but I didn't think the accommodation was good value for money. Especially as it wad just a set of rooms with no bar or restaurant on site.
It was booked at the last minute and had intended to travel by train but all trains cancelled. If not it would have been a good location. Room was very clean and all facilities were a reasonable quality. There wad no decaf coffee but upon ringing a tin was brought which had enough for two cups within a matter of minutes. Later on a new bottle was brought. So service was excellent and friendly.

United KingdomA rather unpleasant smell to the entrance hall, stairs and room (the room had an air freshener plugged in, but this didn't mask it). Speaking to people who were also staying there, they too commented on this smell.
Very central. Minutes walk to the centre, and right opposite to the railway station. Shrewsbury is a great place to visit.

United KingdomFirst impression of the entire building was depressing, unwelcoming, grubby and sad. The check-in details via booking.com were out of date, incorrect and completely useless On arrival, you have to stand in the street and ring a number (notice stuck on the door) to summons a member of staff from a neighbouring hotel to come and let you in and hand over keys etc. The entire building is very grubby, the communal areas were worn, unclean and smelt bad. The room had marked walls, threadbare carpet, filthy windows and due to overlooking the station entrance, needs an extra layer of privacy - such as a light half- blind or window-cling vinyl. Due to the very cramped space available for the bathroom, there is a ridiculous, cheap (possibly hand-made) concertina door on the bathroom that is missing a handle on the inside (just a dangerous exposed pointed wood screw), and is impossible to close from the inside. If it is closed (by someone shoving it from the outside), there is an large gap at the top. This bathroom would be better served with a barn door/sliding door on the outer wall. The bathroom walls were marked, the toilet seat didn't fit, you need to be double jointed to reach the toilet roll holder. The basin tap was not mounted securely and moved when the tap was turned on. The shower cubicle has no door or curtain hence the tiled floor in front of it, the grout and sealant was black with mould from water exposure - it looks dreadful and needs replacing as it gives the impression of being very unclean. Most of the pillows were horribly lumpy and most of them, and the unnecessary cushions, smelt bad. NB There are no staff on the premises
Size of room, good lighting, comfy bed, plenty of electrical sockets, full length mirror, good wi-fi signal, massive TV. The bed linen was nice quality and clean, and the same can be said for the towels. Good shower and water pressure - plenty of hot water(albeit slow to come through) View of the castle and station building

United KingdomI didn't have hot water despite the notice saying 'be careful VERY hot water' and the lighting was too dim to see. The other people in the building were running up and down the corridors drunk on several occassions. I recon the fire alarm went off when another guest tried to smoke.
Comfy bed and I had a good nights sleep apart from the one night the fire alarm went off at 4.30am. Fluffy white towels but cold shower. Great location with good restaurants nearby. Erm....what bar? It was across the street in a different building. There was a phone number to call but no staff as I take it they were also across the street working in the bar.

United KingdomWhen using the shower the fan didn’t extract the hot steam resulting in a very warm room. Also for a family room, it was very tightly compact, had to squeeze past the table, also the bed was a small double bed and wasn’t very comfortable.
The hotel was close to all the shops and pubs, was cheap to book for location, had amenities included in room.

United KingdomAs mentioned before the ensuite could have been more navigable with a working door for privacy - but needs must and better to have an ensuite facility than not have one at all. The door not being able to be closed is not really a problem as it opens up into a hall, rather than the main part of the room.
Check in/out - excellent. Notice on front door to telephone member of staff who was a minute away - we were lucky enough to be treated with an early check in and later check out, (for bag storage). Bed Comfort - unspoilt nights sleep, (once we got used to traffic noise). Location - directly across the road from the railway station and only a ten minute walk to the 'centre' - although plenty of bars, eateries along the route too. Room - lovely and clean but very 'tired' with an en-suite that has just about been squeezed in and is not recommended for anyone with too much of a mobility issue - BUT it must be remembered that The Station Hotel does not profess to be anything more than 2* and for that reason I think it's acceptable - certainly better than running through corridors with a too small towel around your body! Pub below closed - I know a lot of reviewers have posted negative comments about the bar being closed but it suited us not to be above a noisy pub
