great location in a classic old hotel

When we arrived I found my name on an envelope at the check in desk. The key was there along with the wifi info and two forms for ordering breakfast the next day. We found the room with no problem. We enjoyed our stay in the hotel and being downtown was fantastic. We had lunch across the street at " The Pier Cafe" and enjoyed it very much.

Breakfast was good and the service was friendly. The location was fantastic and the option of off street parking was great .

I am used to having a little fridge and bar. And the lift was so small and ancient I dare not get in it.

A nice room for a single with a big bathroom. Very nice staff. Perfect location

Single bed not ideal - not used to sleeping in a single bed and kept bashing into wall when turning over :-D Plaster fell from window / ceiling when opening. Would like to have had at least rubbish bin cleaned out daily. Electric kettle wouldn't stay switched on - had to hold it in place on base to get it to work

Friendly reception, large breakfast, great location.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable, I could feel the springs in the mattress, I didn't sleep well at all. The window wouldn't shut either.

The receptionist was lovely, the hotel was clean.

Could have been cleaner. The walls and ceilings had some stains on them and I'm not sure if the tub had been cleaned at all (to be fair, it would be really awkward to clean!). The place is showing its age for sure.

Staff were excellent, location was amazing and we had a beautiful view of the harbour from our room.

The local staff dealt admirably with the problems mentioned above but the Payman organisation needs to think about delivering a quality service rather than just making money. Also, the situation in which almost every question had to be relayed to the Payman organisation makes it challenging for the hotel staff to deal with issues which arise in the hotel. I don,'t think we'll return because we don't want to support an organisation such as Payman which is appears to be primarily about making money and not treating its staff very well or giving them the autonomy to deal with local situations

The hotel staff were excellent. They had been landed with a difficult situation as the Payman organisation had booked an enormous party into the hotel without thinking of the consequences for other guests - eg noisy corridors at 12.30 am, inadequate room for breakfast. The staff worked hard to ensure that we were well looked after The hotel is an interesting old hotel and the refurbished rooms are very comfortable

A lounge area would of been good. Didn't have a bar but that was Ok because it was nice and quiet. Would of been good to sit somewhere for a coffee instead of the room.

Payment process was a pain, multiple steps, had to pay direct, confusing typical case of a small motel managed by a corporate. Truthfully we weren’t really confident we would actually have a room until arrived!! Check in instruction said go to a carpark and a concierge will let you in (laughs) it’s a 8 car carpark at back of building v hard to find with a rusted metal plank to motel… and no parks left. Reception seemed understaffed.

Central. Breakfast surprisingly was actually really good!!

Paid hotel prices for bed-and-breakfast accommodation. No meals offered apart from breakfast. No communal social areas such as bar, residents lounge or outside seating area. Stopped serving breakfast very firmly at 9.00am which is not very holiday oriented.

Staff tried to be helpful. Room had lovely view. Good, solid, if unexciting breakfast. Stromness is delightful little town with some great restaurants and fascinating history. Very convenient for ferry to and from mainland. Close to many of best sights of Orkney. Has its own private parking area which is not usual in Stromness.
