How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

There wasn’t anything really we didn’t like. There wasn’t a television in the room , but it wasn’t a problem to us
The host was lovely. She gave her time to show us our room . She also recommended we took a walk to the bay, and gave us instructions to walk there. She also asked us what we wanted for breakfast, such a wonderful selection

Absolutely amazing place to stay. Sarah was so welcoming and just lovely. The place was beautiful and spotless. The breakfast was delicious and if you have any type of allergy Sarah makes sure you have many options to choose from. One of the best B&B I've stayed in.

We loved it all.
Breakfast was excellent, there was plenty of choice . The cooked food was made from fresh local products and beautifully cooked to order. There were also homemade preserves , granola and compote, all delicious.

Sarah was so lovely and friendly, we really felt like we were being looked after. The breakfast was incredible! Special shout out to the homemade goodies as well. We loved our stay.

No complaints at all.
The host (Sarah) was friendly, attentive and very helpful offering a range of recommendations to help us with our first visit to the Isle of Wight. A true delight to talk to and an even better cook as you find with the sublime breakfast that is provided each morning. The house was beautiful and felt like a home away from home. Comfortable, clean and spacious you are able to unplug and wind down in any of the rooms at Stroud House.

Can't think of anything we didn't like.
Loved this B&B in a beautiful part of the island. Host was so welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Went above & beyond - cake on arrival was so welcome after our long walk, drying my boots. Breakfast was exactly what we needed - even homemade granola. Short walk to a great pub for evening meal. Beautiful home, lovely garden.

The room and bathroom might feel a bit cold for foreigners.
The host is really exceptionally hearty and wellcoming, providing lots of tips on sightseeing and eating-out. Our room was very cosy and very nicely decorated. Wonderful hikes and local bus routes within walking distance.

Sarah was a great hostess. She took the time to help us with some of our travel plans, including identifying some places to stay in the area we were about to travel to. She also made us a beautiful breakfast (asked for scrambled eggs, salmon, mushrooms, and bread) at the time we requested. It was perfectly prepared. In addition to the breakfast she offered home-made granola, fruit, including apples from her apple trees, and home-made conserves. The room was lovely and comfortable. Stroud House was a perfect choice for our visit to the Isle of Wight.

Sarah provided a fabulous selection of continental breakfast and cooked options each day. Even though I have a Gluten Free diet, there was plenty of variety and everything was fresh and delicious!

Everything was perfect
The breakfasts were amazing. So much thought went into producing special daily breakfasts which we requested. The hostess made fresh sauces, jams etc. and she used homegrown and local produce daily. The breakfasts were served in a lovely spacious conservatory

Sarah was very welcoming, and the bed and breakfast was really lovely. Walking distance to a pub (The Red Lion) which served great food.
