Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United KingdomHad to wait 20 minutes to get the key, despite calling 30 minutes before arrival, then being asked to call again 10 minutes before arrival (which we did). Numerous calls after arrival were ignored - finally were asked next door a and were taken to our accommodation where a member of staff was eventually located. No bulb in main light, unironed bedding, dirty bathroom with one towel hanging over shower door - which didn't look clean so we used our own. Toiletries leftovers from previous occupants, mould in bathroom, lounge window does not close and windowsill filthy, plumbing questionable. Felt every spring in the mattress - a really uncomfortable night.
The location was excellent.. Very hot water available

United KingdomDirty rooms. Some appalling DIY with the electrics. There were 2 places in the bathroom where a thick metal(?) wire sticks up a few millimetres out of the floor - I only found out when I trod on them in bare feet.
Safe, on-site parking. Location is 1 minute from the ferry terminal.

United KingdomThe shower was not usable gone of food in the fridge and cupboards gaps in doors. Fire exit signs covered no lighting into the property. Also says no pets but someone had a pet dog barking at early hours. Tv was off the wall when we arrived. We popped to the town came back a woman is the room closing the shutters when our stuff was in room felt uncomfortable. Not the best night away we have had couldn’t sleep as to much banging of doors front door always open.
Staff was nice. Location wouldn’t be bad although traffic was an issue because of the port.

AustraliaWe were flooded out when the ceiling broke open in an area and water came pouring in , it also smelt bad when that happened . It was not clean Very thick dust on And around skirtings and radiator Windows so dirty we could not see out of them . The manager said he would speak to the owner to refund our money for the 4 days but have yet to hear anything back .Had to move to another place of course although he did offer us another room . By that time I had booked elsewhere!

The room above started leaking water in my room at midnight and was told to leave the hotel as there was no more rooms left.the manager didn't help me to find an other hotel.2 weeks has passed and I still haven't received my refund and they won't answer the phone to me. The hotel was also dirty,the toilet had been used and not flushed before I arrived.the pat test's on the electric items in the room was over 6 months out of date. I was scubadiving the next day but had to go home that night as I couldn't find an other hotel that late so I missed the dive.the owners do not care at all.

United KingdomAs we never actually got to stay in the property, I cannot really review it fairly. We rang up 30 mins before arrival as instructed to discover they had no trace of our booking. Fortunately we managed to book into the Travelodge in Dover instead. Bill, who I spoke to said he could possibly offer a cash refund immediately, but I said to do it via Booking.com and he said it should take 24 - 48 hours to be back in my account. However, 2 weeks and several e-mails later, I have only now got the money back. It is a shame it didn't work out as it looked exactly what we wanted, location and accommodation-wise, but I don't think I would risk booking it again sadly.

United KingdomNot having a room we had paid for. What we did see of the building looked terrible - dirty, full bin bags in the corridors, filthy, wash basin removed from wall and on the bathroom floor, junk left around, health and safety concerns. The property is described on the site as 'new property ', it is not. It would appear to be the same property as two others on booking.com, marketed under different names, both with awful reviews. It seems to be a shared building of privately rented bedsits, housing families long term.
Nothing, there was no one on reception and we couldn't get access to the property. Waited over an hour, phoned owner repeatedly but it just went to voicemail. With no prospect of getting access to the room we had paid for in advance we eventually had to leave and booked into their Premier Inn just across the road.
