Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

GermanyThere was some unexpected ‘admin’ before checking in, (filling out a form and uploading a passport picture and paying a deposit). Somehow we didn’t receive this info at the moment of booking one week prior, and not until late on the day of arrival itself. The host did apparently try to contact us by mobile phone earlier in the day, but because we were on the ferry, we were unreachable. The same for the checkout: check out instructions were received by email less than 2 hours before check out time, at 08:15. But I didn’t happen to check my email before we left! For organisational purposes, it would have been better to get this information (check in form, deposit info etc., and also check out instructions, at the moment of booking.
Very well-thought-out apartment, central location, but tucked away and quiet. It was easy to find parking on an adjacent street. The apartment itself was clean and well-cared-for, everything was in perfect working order and it was modern and tastefully decorated.

Washbowl plug not working, toilet seat partly stained yellow, chipped skirting board paint in bathroom, grease on kitchen splashback tops, dust on lamp cords. Tepid water only for a bath. It would be nice to have have herbal tea or decaffeinated coffee and a teapot available. Felt too much contact and paperwork from Hosting Homes compared to other accommodation we've stayed in.
Lovely apartment in a great location close to town and river Thames. It's a great stay. Warm accommodation with a comfortable bed.

United KingdomAt one point during our stay there was an issue with the access drive which was blocked by two cars, one of which left no room without scraping past the vehicle sideways and dirtying our clothes.
The property was clean, modern and very comfortable. It was in a good location and had everything we needed.
