How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It wasn't that I disliked anything but I have arthritic knees and getting up and down all those stairs was a bit of a challenge. I wish I'd known the single room was up 2 flights of stairs.
The breakfast was delicious. I'm vegan and was able to have a really good breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower was great. The staff I met were very friendly and helpful.

Our room was on 4th floor, inconsistent water pressure .
Location our points of interest were in walking distance. Location next to grocery store, very convenient.

Great location only a short walk into the town. Parking was not a problem. Very comfortable bed & quiet. Enjoyed a huge breakfast which was cooked & served to us by a very happy Joanne.

The location was perfect! Close to Barter Books (always a bonus) and not far into the centre of Alnwick. The room was a perfect size for a solo traveller and had plenty of extras. A full-size kettle is always appreciated. The bed was comfortable, and the room was warm. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Hosts are very welcoming.

The only thing that could be improved was the shower. It kept getting very hot for a few minutes and then went cold only to repeat the same thing during my quick shower.
I felt like the communication with them before hand was wonderful. Everything was written as far as expectations, rules, parking, key retrieval, breakfast times, etc. they welcomed us there and were so nice and friendly.

If I was to nit pick we prefer a darker room so more of a black out blind would be the preference, but despite that we had a great stay and a great night's sleep.
The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and large. There was lots of thoughtful details that don't often appear in BnBs or hotels like the makeup pads and the fridge. The breakfast selection was really good. It was warm and very easy to come and go as we please.

The bed was so comfy with quality bed linen & towels . If you travel light then the size of the room will be fine .
The staff were very friendly & helpful .The breakfast was lovely .

There was nothing to complain about.
Excellent room and the property is in a very convenient location for exploring Alnwick. Darren, our host, was welcoming and helpful. We were given information about the local area, including guidance on local eateries. Breakfast was well prepared and served in a comfortable breakfast room. There was lots of choice and hot food was prepared to order.

Very clean and spacious single room with comfortable bed. Good location within walking distance of Alnwick town centre and Alnwick Garden and Castle. Delicious home cooked breakfast with two eggs! Friendly and welcoming owner. Very good value for money.

Parking could be better but we did get parked on road. Being greeted by host and facilities explained would have been nice. Making our own coffee and not having breakfast explained to us at breakfast time.
Great location Good communication and instruction from host prior to arrival. Room was lovely and clean and stylish. Nice touches like fresh milk and cold water in a fridge. Toiletries in bathroom was a nice touch. Cooked Breakfast was excellent.

The space in the room has been well thought out and used to its best. I heard very little noise from other guests so had a great nights sleep. The owner Darren was really good to deal with and no request was too much for him. He’s a great host.
