Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt's one of the best stays we've had! Fearga and Graham are ever so kind and helpful. The place is adorable, cosy, and so comfortable. They thought through everything, from fluffy towels to a great quality speaker for my music. Their generous breakfasts kept us energetic till dinner. We would definitely love to come back.

United KingdomI think because it was winter it was a little cold and a little damp but the lovely hosts provided heaters and hot water bottles so at night we were very cosy.
It was very cute and beautifully presented. The host was so lovely and had ensured the Bothy was well stocked with breakfast things and even chocolate treats. We were offered a bottle of wine on arrival which was so sweet and gave recommendations for local restaurants. The bed was very comfortable and the WiFi worked well enough to stream. The property is really conveniently located but secure and private.

United KingdomNothing at all. It was perfect! Can't wait to go back again.
Everything!! The room was warm and cosy, very quiet. The bed was so comfie. The shower was hot and powerful, just what I needed after a long walk in the surrounding area. We got back to the bothy just after dark. The torches available on the bedside table helped up find our way. Fearga went out of her way to make sure our stay was perfect. The breakfast provided for 2 could have fed a family of 6. The kettle and coffee machine was a nice touch, with a huge selection of drinks, biscuits, and chocolate. The radio and Bluetooth speaker both used. We loved our stay, no complaints at all.

United KingdomNothing - only wish we'd booked to stay for longer.
Firstly, instructions to find the property were excellent. The hosts are warm and welcoming and give fantastic advise for places to visit if needed - nothing was too much bother. The Bothy itself was better than we expected. The place is spotlessly clean, the bed super comfy and we loved sitting outside enjoying a coffee breathing in the beautiful fresh air. The breakfast selection was brilliant and enough food to feed an army! We visited three different places to eat, and one meal my husband said it was the best lamb dish he'd ever tasted. A wonderful quiet place to stay, perfectly located to visit many areas of Hadrians Wall.

United KingdomNothing really.
Very charming place, and welcoming hosts. Breakfast was selected before arrival, and was placed in a fridge for us to use in the morning. The bothy is very close to Greenhead, which has an excellent restaurant (Greenhead Hôtel), and some of the best bits of Hadrian's wall.

United KingdomThe only slight downside was having to park across the road, but once you had your bags in, it wasn't a problem.
Lovely luxurious little Bothy. Such attention to detail made it a lovely place to stay. Excellent breakfast, which we assembled ourselves. Would have loved to stay longer, and we hope to visit again.

AustraliaA great little property very close to all attractions for Hadrians Wall. We were welcomed and provided with a lot of information about Hadrians Wall forts and Museum as well as recommendations for lunch and dinner. The continental breakfast provided was lovely, there is also a microwave and Nespresso machine. Overall a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend a stay at The Bothy

South AfricaAbsolutely nothing !
The Bothy is a beautifully renovated building which is perfect for a couple for short term self catering with breakfast supplied. Fearga and Graham are very welcoming and make you feel very much at home. Fearga supplies a delicious continental breakfast with many choices. Everything was fresh and there was more than ample to set you up for the day. There is a very practical small kitchenette which allows you to prepare light meals in the evening. The bed was very comfortable and the shower great ! There is a small terrace outside which would be lovely on a warm evening. The Bothy is very well situated to explore the Hadrians Wall area aswell as the North Penines . There are countless activities available.

My visit was truly wonderful and provided the quiet getaway I needed. The property is positioned perfectly to explore the Northumberland countryside, Yorkshire Dales and is not far from the Lake district and Scotland. You really can’t go in the wrong direction. Before I proceed, I should mention that this review is actually for The Ivy Cottage, not for The Bothy, as I had originally booked. A few days prior to my arrival, my generous hosts offered me an upgrade from the quaint and rustic bothy, to their gorgeous and spacious ground floor apartment known as The Ivy Cottage. What a kind gesture! The Ivy Cottage is immaculate, beautifully decorated & clearly planned for the comfort and convenience of the traveler. From the delicious, local breakfast provisions, teas & snacks, the soothing bedding, modern bathroom, wood/coal burning fireplace, comfortable tv lounge and a library of great reads & travel guides, you can’t ask for much more. Fearga & Graham were consummate hosts. Friendly, knowledgeable and very approachable. They truly went out of their way to make sure that my stay was everything I hoped it would be. I’m certain I’ll be back again soon. Thanks for everything.

United KingdomGoing home.
What an adorable place to stay. Everything about our stay was perfect, just the right amount of seclusion, but still close to great places to eat, walk etc. The Bothy itself was lovely, everything you need to get away from it all. Out hosts Fearga and Graham were lovely also, always making sure we had what we needed. Fearga also surprised us with a bottle of bubbly and some chocolates as we were there for our 25h wedding anniversary. Thank you again for that Fearga. The surrounding countryside is also gorgeous, we have certainly fallen in love with Northumberland and will hopefully be back soon. Mark and Sharon.
