How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Very noisy at night and difficult to sleep.
Location was perfect; centre of The Lanes. Apt very well equipped and spacious. Bonus having an outside terrace.

Great location. Everything was in walking distance. Parking included. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Kitchen could have had oil, salt etc...small things to help us make our own breakfast. Also, the TV didn't work - we were told it would have Netflix and other streaming services but neither of the remote controls worked. And there was also a small issue with the parking - which was sorted out - but it didn't create a great first impression.

The cleaning standards need to be upped.
The location is perfect. Right in the city center. The flat is beautiful and has all what’s necessary. And the owners are very responsive and helpful.

It wasn’t easy to find, the instructions don’t say to turn off from the square so we struggled there. The front door takes a knack and we got stuck inside at one point! There were no items to wash up with or tablets for the dishwasher so we had to leave our dishes. (Hopefully a one off) There are no mirrors bar one in the bathroom. We didn’t use the parking after reading the reviews but I did see people going in and out
The location is brilliant, right in the heart of Brighton, access to everything easily and plenty of shops and restaurants within a stones throw. The property was spacious and ‘homely’ and seemed a shame we were only there one night!

Being so close to pubs and bars etc was a but noisy at night but it's people enjoying themselves so can put up with.
Right in the heart of the lanes, really good locale for meandering around the shops. Restaurants and pubs right on the doorstep. Beach front minutes walk away.

The hot water was not working, so no hot water for a shower. The WiFi password does not work. We were only provided with 2 towels, despite booking for 3 adults.
The location was excellent and the parking was a real bonus. The flat is clean and spacious and has everything you need.

There was still food left in the property, in the kitchen cupboards which included out of date bread etc. the shower head was very dirty, needed a clean or replacing.
The location was amazing. Right in the middle of everything!

The apartment was very cold. The heating wasn't working properly. They need to address this. There was a lot of early morning noise from a pub behind the apartment loading kegs every morning.
Location, Location, Location. The apartment is in the heart of Brighton's city centre. It's compact and bijou but perfect for a couple to enjoy a few days holidays. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was huge with an electric shower, the kitchen had a Nesprssso machine & the living area had a sofa and TV. A much better alternative to a hotel room

It was quite noisy from people in the street and bars below although there were ear plugs provided. It was very loud early in the morning when people were upstairs so we kept being woken up from around 5am onwards.
Kitchen was stocked well with pans, plates and utensils. Sofa bed was easy to use although it would have been a squash if a couple were sleeping on it.

Boiler wasn’t on when we arrived so it was cold until we worked out how to turn the boiler on. Boiler was also a little noisy which is probably why it was off when we arrived. Worked fantastically though when turned on

Communication was difficult. I have received wrong check in information but it was resolved quickly by phone.
Apartment was as per pictures and we found it perfectly comfortable. Really all you need for couple of days away. Parking underground was great as well - only beware of pigeons!
