Room tired, Hotel in need of modernisation, Bar lacks atmosphere. Doesn’t really capitalise on classic styling inside.

Right by the Beach, free parking at the front of the Hotel, cheap off peak rates. Staff gave fantastic service.

Location. Fairly priced and nice sized room. All basic needs met. A tv shower and toilet. Double bed freshly made. Only issue was the walls are fairly thin so could hear other people’s tvs or muffling from conversations in other rooms. One night it was fairly noisy around 4am outside our door for no reason but stopped every 10/15 minutes or so. Possibly people come in to their rooms. The stairs were a little old dated and worn which made it hard for me to walk up to my room being pregnant but felt the safer option as the lift looked very out dated and old and small. But all in all 3 nights at £176 you can’t complain. It did its purpose and it was overall a lovely location and great stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our tv didn’t work when we arrived so it was soon replaced which a working tv so we could watch free view , with film 4 which was great.

Visibility is poor cause I had to ask of Carlton from Nelson. There should be a bigger sign post.

Good value for money no doubt but my friend who is quite senior struggled with the facilities on the ground floor room like toilet and shower. But pleasant staff. And great location. Overal decent value for money

Room was on the ground floor,too small.No nets up window.Shower door broken and shower attachment.Bed too small. As the weather was bad I had to ask the receptionist to put the heating on and you could not adjust it .

Not really a dislike, but the owners have made a lot of effort to improve the appearance of the communal areas, and they are now looking nice. The rooms however are starting to look 'tired' and do need some renovations. But they are clean, and have all the positives mentioned above, so for me it makes up for it, and although some improvements are needed, I can live with the rooms as they are as a solo traveller. Many more positives than negatives, and I will book to stay again.

This is my second stay at The Carlton, and it confirms the good points of my previous visit, and I will gladly stay there again. On both occasions the rooms have been large, toasty warm, with constant hot water for washing and showers, and both beds were incredibly comfortable. The rooms were also clean and tidy too. These are four areas that can spoil a stay in a hotel if not achieved, but both my rooms have ticked these boxes well. The location is also very good for the beach, and the town, but also in a quiet location too. Special note for the excellent breakfast too. Well worth the money, and after sampling it last time I booked it for every day on this stay.

All of the staff were very nice except for one. She had a bad attitude when I ask for something to be done so much so that if the hotel wasn't so convenient to me I wouldn't go there again. This was my third time staying there.

The hotel photos on the website didn't match the room we had, and outside of the building, it needs a bit of attention.

The bed was comfortable and clean, and there was lots of coffee and tea, constant hot water available.

The only things I did not like and that is because I am fussy .all the eggs were slimy even the scrambled would have been nice to have a couple cooked sun side up. Also only plain yogurt some fruit ones would have been nice. Shame the restaurant is not open in the evening. But like I said this is just because I am a bit fussy .has not put me of staying again

Staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good except the eggs but other than that all very nice and plenty of it. Location also was ideal ,it is on the sea front but far enough away from the noise end . Was able to park outside the hotel which really helped . This was our first time and has we visit the area a lot due to family living close we will now be booking this hotel for every trip
