Aspects of the hotel felt a bit neglected. One of the bedroom windows was badly cracked, bits of trim had come loose from the radiators and the corridors and staircases had a musty smell. The spiral staircase / fire escape leading to the car park is not for the faint-hearted! However, the price of the room offsets all this.

You can't grumble at the low price of The Charles Hotel. The room was large and warm and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was good and the free parking is an added bonus. With the station nearby, it makes a good base from which to explore the area.

The spiral staircase from the car park is a bit of a surprise when you arrive and have to carry your bags up there. Later learned we could take a different route so that’s what we did when we checked out.

The size of the triple room was very spacious. The man in reception who checked us in was very friendly. He was also very pleasant when we asked him a question later on and very helpful.

Price quite high Sunday to Monday and charged extra for a double room when it seems single would be left unoccupied.

Nothing in particular except for the lack of mattress cover. The mattress was covered by one single sheet, it was almost as good as sleeping on a bare mattress. I had to ask for an extra sheet to double up on the mattress. The staff were amazing though.

Although a good attempt to referbish the rooms Was OK. The lack of attention to detail, like the shower, was mouldy around the door and grout area again a small detail but let the room down.

Booked 2 rooms, neither had ariels for TV and when reported staff said they would have a look but nothing happened. Pillows were too hard and 1 bed was extremely soiled

The TV was a bit smalll considering its distance from the bed. Towel rail needed in bathroom or room to dry towel after shower. I had tonhang it on hanger to dry. I ate my breakfast but for £7.99 I expected more items. I don't like the reception empty and having to ring different number stuck to the door to communicate with staff. The steep swirly staircase is treacherous in the rain and very dizzying regardless of weather. Some new method of getting customers to the right level needs to be invented. I'm registered disabled yet no disability accessibility was present in the building or with access to thr building expect for walking all the way round. At night it's not a comfortable walk.

Clean bedding. Strong pillows. Strong heating. Clean room. Kettle with tea coffee milk and sugar. The shower was lovely. Reception is decorated nicely. I ordered a breakfast for my first morning. I However overall I will stay again because of the location. I hope to build a regular visit to the area due to family needs.

No making of the bed I travel 4 work eat take outs. The pizza or kebab remains were still there when I walk in the next night. If I had known that woukd of disposed then myself. Just need a nudge this place and it become awesome for Someone working away a single bed though not great

We had to wait 40 minutes to check in, we arrived in the evening. The bathroom was very small and cold despite the working radiator.

The room was rather small and the view limited. I stayed there last year in October and the price semed reasonable. This time it was considerably more expensive, which brings into question value for money. I may have to look for somewhere cheaper next time. TV channels were poor, the connection was faulty, some channels were unavailable.

Breakfast was not included. The location is excellent, very close to the railway station, the town centre and not far from the bus station. The Sultan restaurant is worth the visit, good meals and friendly staff.

Reception not manned well, no reception on tv, cable seemed to be missing and no one available to report to. Main room light and mirror light in bathroom did not work, again no one to report to.

Breakfast not good at all... egg was overcooked and bacon impossible to eat! But the staff were nice and polite.

Lacks small attention to detail and could do with re-decorating throughout. Bathroom needs attention to decorating. We had no TV signal , called receptionist staff to assist but couldn’t seem to get signal either. - was left very bored with no TV all night. Booked for breakfast in the morning and was rudely awoken at 9:00am with someone knocking saying we was ‘late for breakfast’.

Rooms are modern and beds are comfortable.
