We had pre-booked to have an evening meal, which unfortunately fell short of our expectations. Firstly, the bar/restaurant area was uncomfortably cold and whilst dogs were allowed in the communal areas, which I don't object to, I do feel that there should be segregated areas for those wishing not to have dogs near them whilst eating. Once we had ordered our food it took over 40 minutes for the starters to be served, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, and when they were served they were lukewarm at best; serving hot food on cold plates isn't the best. Our main courses, although slightly better, should have been hotter. When it came to deserts, all that was on offer was ice cream, not ideal when we you are sitting in a very cold room; at least the coffee was hot. Breakfast the next morning was also a disappointment. Although the scrambled eggs were well made, serving them on a chunk of toasted sourdough that was so hard it was difficult to cut/eat, whilst also the bacon was well overdone/burnt, although some may simply say it was "over crispy".

All the staff we met were both very welcoming and polite. Our room was comfortable with a magnificent view over the fields behind the inn, which made for a very relaxing stay.

Television turned itself on twice during the night. Requested breakfast for 8.30 am on Monday, but by 9.00am pub in darkness and doors locked. We left without breakfast but we booked the price of the breakfast when booking the room.

The fire smoked, obviously an ongoing issue as soot all around the fire place, but could even smell it in our room when it had been lit again the following morning. All my clothes and hair smelt like id been sat next to an outdoor firepit. Shame as my only negative about our stay.

Nice welcoming ‘pub’, clean modern room. Lovely food, good coffee. Quiet at night.

The chiltern fox was a lovely pub/hotel, the staff are excellent, I emailed to see if they could order a taxi for me, this was all done. The only thing we didn't like was the temperature in de hotel. In the room we had an electric fan, so there it was OK. But in the dining room it was very cold.

Breakfast was OK. Very nice it wasn't a buffet, but served by a nice girl. Diner was very good and we drank very good wines.

The food ordered for dinner and breakfast was excellent over 2 days. Ideally situated for visiting the Chilterns area for walking and visiting the variety of places in the area. The Autumnal weather when sun shone was brilliant under the beech tree canopies.

Perfect countryside location in beautiful Chilterns. Very English. Breakfast was superb. One downside was the bathroom was a little cramped and the shower was blocked. Notwithstanding this, lovely place to enjoy English country life.

- Vegetarian options on a Sunday could be better - Rooms were warm It is worth noting that the staff were aware of both of these possible improvements and did everything they could to address It at the time. Our vegetarian guest was given a very nice lunch, and windows in all rooms were opened well in advance of our arrival.

Staff more interested in watching rugby and cricket on their iPad that sat on the bar than the guests. One room of three still occupied when we arrived but we were upgraded which was appreciated. Only upgraded room had water provided

Access to rooms was through steep stairs. Could have helped having wifi password, something in minibar or even bottles of water and some booklets or leaflets about things to do in the local area.

Delicious well made food, comfortable room, great location, friendly locals, attentive service and fabulous views onto the fields. Peaceful setting and very cosy pub. Dog friendly too! Definitely recommend.

On arrival we explained we would potentially be early, but would be happy to dine & wait in the bar area. Wasnt until after check in we were informed no food was available on monday, with nothing within walking distance was an inconvenience. Especially with wet miserable weather. Where the website & google had informed us it was.
