Understandably it is an old building but some of the carpets were looking a bit tired

The building with it's original features and history. The room was comfortable with the added bonus of a jacuzzi bath. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

A bit maze like one inside due to size but otherwise great

Great historical hotel. Great staff and breakfast. Bit of an odd position, but once bearings were got, the centre of town was a 15-minute walk.

Fully appreciating the undertaking here to renovate such a building and make it financially viable but there are a few areas that let it down. We are experiencing a particularly cold April but on arrival at around 4:30pm on the Saturday afternoon the hotel felt cold, in particular our room. The air conditioning didnt work and the electrical heater in the room wasnt in keeping with the experience. There was no heating in the bathroom either. There was water damage in the ceiling above the bed as well. Once we got the heater on the temperature was fine from then on and in the morning the hotel felt warm when we went down for breakfast. The only other thing was the view from the window (Room 215). Unfortunately all we could see was the derelict structure of the building. I think I would have preferred a frosted glass than to see that.

As a venue the history and architecture of the coal exchange is amazing and an important piece of Welsh and Cardiff's history that we must keep and fully restore. Access, parking and location to the Bay is excellent. The entrance and main hall are very impressive and Cuddy's bar worked really well for breakfast (Which was great) and we loved the decor.

We like to watch TV in the morning on a weekend when getting ready before checkout. The TV kept switching off after 2 mins so we basically had no TV. I reported in at check in the night before but the problem remained.

Huge room but only a double bed, plenty of room for a king-sized bed. Strange sink, visually attractive but not great for having somewhere for soap, toothbrush etc. I would definitely stay again. The positives far outweigh the small niggles.

Great location, lovely old building. Friendly staff. Huge bathroom with waterfall shower and jacuzzi bath (didn't have time to use the bath, sadly!)

They clearly rent the hospitality space out to prom and college parties, this was disruptive to our stay. We couldn’t even walk through the front entrance at 22:30 as their were young persons everywhere outside partying.

I liked the decor and the general layout and location of the hotel.

Missed that we'd paid for early check in. Room wasn't ready in time which set our afternoon back an hour. However the hotel more than made up for it with complimentary additions.

Character of the building and rooms. Staff, very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate. Food very good. Big rooms. Large whirlpool bath

No major grumbles - TV in the room I had (111) didn't work (or I couldn't make it work, and I've never failed to do so in a hotel before)

Excellent breakfast - full range of items on offer Bathroom excellent for the price - rooms are a bit old-fashioned (but full of character) but the bathrooms are spacious and modern - there was a jacuzzi in 111, a hollowed-out granite slab for a wash-basin and a rain shower in the ceiling; I liked the tribute in the ceiling to a US jazz musician who had stayed in the hotel
