Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceEverything was perfect
The cottar is a beautiful place, comfortable and highly relaxing. The place is beautifully and tastefully decorated with a true local history of anchorage. Everything in the island is easily accessible by car. Perfectly equipped with all the cooking tools and efficient heaters, the cottar is perfect whatever the weather outside. Amazing view on the loch especially stunning with sunset and sunrise lights. We highly recommend the cottar that made our stay in the Isle of Skye truly perfect. Thank you Eoin for you kind welcome, and great recommendations.

United KingdomStayed at The Cottar in April - what an amazing and special place! The location is superb- right on the water - we saw White Tailed Eagles, Seals, Dolphins, Otters and much more from the garden. Eoin was extremely helpful and gave us lots of interesting information for the area and a nice welcome pack. The Cottar itself is comfortable and well equipped (lovely open fire ready for us when we arrived - very cosy) and has an abundance of interesting artefacts and history. Only a short drive to Broadford for supplies and the location gave good access for getting around the island.

United KingdomHonestly, nothing. The property went above and beyond our expectations.
It's immediately clear how much care and attention has gone into making the Cottar feel special. From meeting Eoin to collect keys on arrival, to the peaceful location on the waterfront, the warmth from the roaring open fire, the thoughtfully decorated walls and very clean inside and out. Location is ideal for setting off to multiple spots on Skye. Eoin went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and gave us tips on where to explore. Without a doubt one of the best places we've stayed - we can't wait to return to this hidden gem.

Czech RepublicIf you are looking for authenticity, then this is the place for you. My wife and I were absolutely delighted! Eoin is a great host and his fishing lodge is more than cozy. We stayed here for 4 nights and didn't want to leave at all. Yes, it's true that the bed is small - but I slept here every day for more than 8 hours and that doesn't normally happen. From the windows we watched sea otters, deer on the shore of the opposite island and once a seal swam by. We've been gone for a few days and already we miss it!

United KingdomThe bed was a bit small and could only access one side of it. Weak shower and nowhere to store clothes.
The location was stunning. It was warm and cosy with the wood fire. Eion the owner was very helpful, he met us there and helped with luggage and gave us good ideas for places to visit. He also had already lit the fire. His collection of antique objects was fascinating.

United KingdomHaving to go home.
The Cottar. From the moment we arrived at The Cottar Eion was there to ensure we settled in quickly. He helped us in with our luggage and made sure we knew where everything was and how stuff worked, he'd even lit a fire to welcome us. He took time to tell us the history of the cottage and his family and the many interesting pictures and objects he has curated to decorate both in doors and out. He took time to pore over a map with us and pointed out interesting and less touristy places to visit. We followed his advice to the letter and saw much more of the island and its fantastic scenery than we would have following the guide we has brought. His care and attention continued through the week, calling to make sure everything was ok, and to let us know the Highland Games was being held in Portree. He also put us off doing a Distillery tour and recommended a boat trip to Raasay. What a place, the views of Skye were fantastic, and we watched an eagle soaring over Brochel Castle. The whole week was an amazing experience, enhanced by such an historic and beautiful place to stay, the views and the peace and quiet. Perfect!!

AustraliaNo curtains (could do with some detachable curtains to put up at night in the summer). Cottage driveway is difficult to locate (would benefit from a nice sign with ‘The Cottar’). Parking area is small for a large vehicle.
Cosy and charming little cottage. Great view and location. Working fireplaces. Excellent kitchen. Comfortable mattress. Awesome outdoor area and lots of wildlife to spot (resident otter, birds and across the loch some deer). Quiet and away from the crowds. Looks better than the photos suggest. Helpful host.

Czech RepublicIt was very difficult to leave this wonderful place.
Staying at Cottar was absolutely wonderful for several reasons. The place itself is a great base for exploring the Isle of Skye, in complete privacy yet within reasonable reach of the shops and restaurants of nearby Broadford. The cozy house built on the shore of the Loch na Cairidh abounds with beautiful views and great outdoor seating. Morning and evening we were greeted by seals, herons, seagulls and other waterfowl. The equipment of the house has a wonderfully balanced line between the full-fledged needs of the modern world (fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, stove with grill and oven, kettle, toaster, microwave) and a sample of life many years ago (antique furniture, original fishing and husbandry equipment, original photographs and accessories). Everything was perfectly functional, clean and beautifully prepared. Evening sitting by the fireplace, with one of the many interesting books that you can find in the perfectly equipped bookcase, were some of the most beautiful moments in The Cottar. However, the biggest benefit was meeting the owner. Eoin is an absolutely lovely man with an infectious passion for the Isle of Skye, its historical legacy, cultural heritage, natural wealth and contemporary life. It was a great honor for us to meet him and be charmed by him.

AustraliaWe knew the bed is an original Scottish Threequarter….. so prepared for being cosy! That said, at 6’ 1” and 5’ 9” we were a bit (uncomfortable) too cosy! However, bedding is beautiful and warm.
The Cottar is central in Skye and gave us easy access to all parts of the Isle (we had a car). It was in a spot where it was quiet and you forgot you were that central. Each day we returned from our adventures, seals greeted us in the water in front of the Cottar which was very special. The Cottar is unique and it was a great spot to sit watching the water or warm by the fireplace. We were incredibly grateful of Eion hospitality and care of us.

United KingdomThis was our second time staying at The Cottar. It has a magical atmosphere both inside, which is so stylishly built and designed plus there’s the most beautiful view which draws you in. The wildlife passes in front of you. The water is so clear and wild swimming is on your doorstep. Inside, living in one room is so easy and cosy. Everything is there if you want to just stay and eat in. With the fire lit and a glass of wine and the view why would you not want to? You truly feel you have escaped from real life! You will struggle removing yourself each day.
