The check in/check out took far too long. Also I was charged too much as breakfast was added to my bill. It took a while for it to be “checked with breakfast staff” before I could leave.

Every single member of staff was exceptional. I encountered approx 7 members & they all conducted themselves exactly the same. Super happy and smiling. Nothing was 2 much hassle for any of them. The property itself is outstanding. Decorated neutral & tastefully. In such a way it would fit any1s taste.Then the bedrooms WOW ! They have a lot of traditional air to them with a superb mix modern. The queen bed was firm but extremely comfortable. Best sleep I’ve had in a hotel Room & ensuite were immaculate. HUGE bathtub & 2 shower heads. There is an empty mini fridge so if you want to bring milk or snack you can. There is a large TV. Cupboard I ordered a full Scottish breakfast, it’s the 1st time I’ve ever had a cooked breakfast with every item boiling hot . Not even at home. And I highly recommend it. I’ve never seen such care taken over a hotel breakfast in my life . My room had a wee balcony with a table & 2 chairs. (Room 1) the room was massive . The actual building is breathtaking. So beautiful. I also saw the function suite , looked set up for a wedding. It was absolutely stunning. There’s a restaurant on the ground floor 2. Outside there’s a huge grass area with a lot of table & chairs.Along with a Bar area. Called The Pod. It was winter and snowing but I can imagine in the summer it would be mobbed. The hotel seems to be the heart of the community. All this wonderful stuff aside . The staff truly make the experience at The Craigie Hotel 10/10. I’ve never experienced any place not just hotel where every single member of staff (probably despite working 12 hour shifts) were ALWAYS, happy, cheery, kind , considerate, friendly people. I made several unadvertised special requests and not once was it an issue. I wasn’t made to feel like a pest. They couldn’t help you fast enough. Literally the nicest ppl in the world. I wish every single one of them a wonderful life. This was a last minute booking and something I’d not usually book.

We usually stay in the superior room But this time we stayed in the double room which was not good as previous times as much smaller room and smaller bed. I would rather pay extra £20 for the superior room.

Location fab - Penicuik is a great place in the Pentlands with great walking into the Penicuik Estate from the Craigie and good bus access to Edinburgh and surrounding villages and into Peebles. Short walk to Penicuik Storehouse which sells locally grown and produced food and crafts. Room was large (bed enormous!) and comfortable. Good tea and coffee making facilities in room. Bar was lovely and full of character. Great Christmas decorations and a big tree. Extensive choice of cocktails and other drinks including draught beer which was important to us. Friendly staff and attentive service. Food was good and with a range of choice. Breakfast was hearty and available till noon which was a bonus.

The price for Bed and Breakfast was a lot, but I understood when I saw the room. It is very out of the way, being in Penicuik, and there were a lot of winding roads, but that could just be my satnav and not the fault of the hotel. Booking.com indicated the distance was 13 miles from livingston, but my satnav said 23 miles. Traffic was ok, so travelling was not an issue. Ample parking too. With every negative there is at least two postives.

Breakfast was nice, coffee was good, orange juice was good too, I only stayed the one night. I didn't try dinner but the prices were reasonable, I know because I had looked at the menu while having breakfast. £26 for steak, is about average. The room utterly blew me away though! Seemed to me like a french concept I have seen before in other hotels, a restaurant-with-rooms style. My room was decorated in deep homely colours and was a great place to relax and unwind. There was ample space, a king sized bed and a large window overlooking the garden. Granted, it was the middle of December (2023) but I could see the outline in the dark. Lol. A very spacious bathroom, with a enclosed shower cubicle, and a separate rain shower. Very modern. Like an out-of-town boutique hotel. A hidden gem. I am going back in January 2024. It was well worth the drive. Great tv reception too, which I have had issues with at other hotels.

Our room looked over the carpark and we were aware of people coming and going in the early hours. There were a few examples of repairs that had been neglected such as a toilet roll holder that was crooked and a light switch dimmer which was hanging off its base etc. everything very clean and functioning however so not a major negative. View from restaurant over local housing estate not magnificent!

Friendly, welcoming and mostly efficient staff, great cocktail, breakfast and food menus, nice room, bathroom, bar and restaurant which all felt stylish but homely and comfortable.

Very Friendly, helpful and professional staff. They made us feel right at home from the minute we walked in. Always very attentive and willing to assist you with any request you might have. Good breakfast options with local dishes. Dinner a la carte also very nice.

Breakfast was excellent, staff were lovely. We had chosen the location because we have family in Penicuick, so it was perfect. It was also easy to get the bus into Edinburgh.
