Bathroom could do with an update. The bathroom door stuck on the floor and the flush on the toilet wasn't great.

There were a lot of reminders to keep the sheets and towels clean and dogs off all furniture even with blankets, that for someone like me, made me a little paranoid and less settled. I understand the concern, but it felt a little heavy-handed. Having said that, everything else was really lovely and would definitely recommend.

Lovely place for a stopover to explore the nearby countryside and villages. We needed a place that took dogs, and this one does. Felt looked after well by the staff. Lovely meals and lovely breakfast with a great selection of choices for both. Lovely big room with plenty of facilities and a large bath (welcome after walking on the windy moors). Great bar area with roaring fire and excellent service separate spaces to sit quietly in lovely room with pool table to chill. Lovely outside area at the back for when the weather is good

The bedroom was too hot for sleeping conditions (22degC according to the thermostat) and cannot be adjusted to individual preferences, because all bedrooms are connected to one large underfloor heating system. Even after the UFH turned off for the night and with the window cracked wide open it took a long time to get it to a more reasonable temperature.

The staff were courteous and friendly. And welcomed our dog as much as they did us. The food was excellent. Although it initially requires some walking along a very busy and fast moving A628, once you reach and follow the bridle path towards Langsett Reservoir, you will see some stunning scenery. Our dog certainly enjoyed her walks that day (but due to her "inquisitive" nature had to remain on the lead)

Would like butter with toast instead of spread at breakfast…but everything else was 💯

Sat nav doesn’t take you to the pub, but to a sign that tells you how to get there! Friendly welcome and fires burning…rugby match on, so we had a pint and watched that before moving to a table reserved in the bar for dinner. Great food, home cooked with exceptional game sausages! They were so good! I was expecting to be let down by breakfast sausages as many places cut corners, but they were proper sausages, butcher/homemade style. 10/10 for breakfast- only complaint that butter is better than spread! Room was peaceful, warm, clean and comfortable with more than enough room for our furry family member! Was expecting to hear road noise as the pub is in the main a road between Barnsley and Manchester, but so peaceful….not a sound! Nice to have facilities for a brew and biscuits supplied too! The staff are friendly, smiley and work so hard! Nothing was too much trouble and I would recommend this place without question.

Second time I have stayed here, made to feel welcome and at home by everyone. Excellent food and drink, very comfortable and clean facilities all round. Already planning another stay soon. Thank you for a wonderful few days.

Nice cosy vibe when we arrived, bar still open for drinks, we stayed in a little over the closng time and they where very welcoming for us to have one last drink before heading off. Our room was great! all the basics, didn't expect much more for the price we paid! Great value. Breakfast in the morning, with juices, coffee or tea etc, breakfast was good! Nothing that blew me away so could always improve but for what we needed and what we paid for, it did the job

Sadly, due to the power cut there was no running water so toilets and showers did not work. There was no breakfast available for the same reason.

Location was great. Staff did amazingly well considering there was a power cut. Still served alcohol and we were offered a sandwich. All in candle light with a fire to keep us warm.

Only comment for my room - it would have been nice for the (fixed) shower to have also had a hand held hose but otherwise a great stay

Arrived early - staff very busy but provided us with coffee whilst we waited for the rest of the party We went out but due to the weather ended up back at 4.00 whereon we stayed in the bar / restaurant until midnight. Dinner was very good Bar prices very reasonable
