The menu is limited but the food is great, we ate there every morning and evening.

The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. They were so accommodating. What they didn’t know was my partner was going through a health crisis and grief and needed a break from life. They made this so easy for us. Thank you

I booked a twin room for me and my sister and we were shown to a double bed. Immediately they changed the room not a problem. However curtain rail hanging off and big crack in the sink. It wasn’t a problem staff were fabulous and couldn’t do enough for us.

Long delay between ordering and being served then advised they had run out of chicken and then sorbet but staff were nice about it.

Convenient place to stay overnight. Room was comfortable. Good pub food and beer. Staff are friendly and trying their best. Have stayed here before and will stay again.

The room was very, very warm with no way to turn heating down. I opened the windows to let some air in but the road outside seems to very busy so the noise from the traffic kept waking me up. The shower also seemed to be stuck at one temperature, also hot. The TV remote didn't work so I had to work out how to use the controls on the TV itself which was inconvenient. Minor points when I was only there one night.

Booked to stay here for one night. Parking area was very busy and wasn't totally clear which areas belonged to the hotel, but managed to find a space eventually. Booked a standard room but when I checked in it turned out I had been upgraded free of charge!! Room was beautiful and so spacious. The bathroom is hands-down the nicest hotel bathroom I've ever seen, and the bed was comfortable. Shower was nicely powerful. Breakfast was basic but tasty. The staff I interacted with were friendly. For the price I paid I was very happy.

Sadly due to an unexpected electrical fault in the restaurant kitchen, they were unable to serve Sunday lunch on Mothers Day for the time we had booked, so had to give it a miss as we were unable to wait. Staff were very apologetic. These things happen though, we hope to be back soon!

Beautiful hotel, full of character. Superior room was gorgeous. Evening meal in restaurant was lovely, and staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Would love to go back soon.

The room was clean and a good size but the mattress a little soft for us. Again, breakfast good but no fruit on our second morning.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the open fire, a real character property. Adequate parking, not sure what it’s like when busier in the summer. Food and drink in the evening was very good and very reasonably priced ( pint and a pie night). Breakfast was well cooked.

The George is a very pleasant old inn with comfortable rooms and an excellent bar/dining room. Good beer and good food in a warm atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Good night's sleep. Easy parking. I stay quite frequently and can recommend it.

Room faced on to a main road but it was an old coaching inn and we expected that and road traffic noice was minimum. I prefer the option of a bath and shower but again there was no expectation of having both so overall we enjoyed our stay and we were happy with our visit.

Great breakfast, lots of continental and hot food choices for a full English breakfast including black pudding and hash browns. Nice village location with short walks to english heritage sites. Close to larger towns such as Barnard Castle and Richmond.

It is a lovely character hotel .The staff noticeably Amanda Karin and David worked incredibly hard..David was even on his hands and knees blowing the fire to make sure the guests would be warm as there wasn't a delivery of coal till later.

The George was an absolutely, beautiful, historic hotel. We had a lovely stay away only ment to stay 1 night but ended up staying 2 nights. The staff were great, very helpful & I'd definitely recommend The George to friends & family without a doubt. & the hotels grounds is beautiful right along the river. We went in November time so we are planning to go in the summer time when we can enjoy the grounds more. & value for money it was excellent

No cooked breakfast because "the breakfast chef hadn't shown up. No idea where he is". The supposedly automated check in check out is not very effective.

It's good to return to this inn with its good food beer and atmosphere. Had a comfortable warm and good sized breakfast.

Room was warm and clean on arrival. Great breakfast. Staff friendly & helpful. Location was perfect for us - needing a stopover halfway to Glasgow. Will return to explore the area further later in the year. Hotel was much more interesting historically than we realised.
