Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe wash basin was badly and cracked and chipped although it looked fairly new. Expect management are aware and are about to get it replaced but it was a shame to see that in an otherwise nice shower room. Wonder how damage like that can even happen. The coffee was very weak and the taste and texture of the 'fruit juices' were very artificial, like re-constituted mixes. The Full English Breakfast is very much done 'to a price' - ie. just one mushroom, half a tomato, one egg. There was a party of eight next to us and the waitress diligently went round the table three times checking choices. Even then, what came out was not right first time ... Maybe a more visual, 'tick box', order form for the cooked breakfast would make the process easier for everyone?
Our room in the Mews building was quiet and had very comfortable beds and bedding. At breakfast, there was a very good choice of cooked and cold food available and the sausage and bacon were of high quality. It was nice to have (good) croissants on offer too.

United KingdomUnfortunately, they had not had a delivery of egg's, so this impacted the choice of breakfast 😕 Bit hard to have a full English without, although what we did have was ok. Also, only one flat pillow provided and the coffee sachets were all hard, so used my own that I had taken.
Beautiful location, stopped off on the way to Seahouses. We didn't have an evening meal, so we could not comment on that, but we found the most amazing pub/restaurant about a 5-minute walk away called The Fox Hole. The food was the best I've ever tasted. The staff at the hotel were brilliant and nothing too much trouble.

United KingdomThe staff were super friendly and welcoming; a lovely gentleman walked us over to the building where our room was. The room was so spacious and comfy. We were staying to break up a journey from Scotland and arrived late but still enjoyed relaxing whilst watching tv. Really nice rainfall shower and a lovely, quiet countryside area!

United KingdomIt is what it is. It’s a labyrinthine old coaching house. To renovate it to top standards would not be cost effective. Accept and enjoy.
Warm and comfy. Good beds and nice linen. For the price we paid it was just great

The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. They were so accommodating. What they didn’t know was my partner was going through a health crisis and grief and needed a break from life. They made this so easy for us. Thank you

United KingdomI booked a twin room for me and my sister and we were shown to a double bed. Immediately they changed the room not a problem. However curtain rail hanging off and big crack in the sink. It wasn’t a problem staff were fabulous and couldn’t do enough for us.

United KingdomThe room was very, very warm with no way to turn heating down. I opened the windows to let some air in but the road outside seems to very busy so the noise from the traffic kept waking me up. The shower also seemed to be stuck at one temperature, also hot. The TV remote didn't work so I had to work out how to use the controls on the TV itself which was inconvenient. Minor points when I was only there one night.
Booked to stay here for one night. Parking area was very busy and wasn't totally clear which areas belonged to the hotel, but managed to find a space eventually. Booked a standard room but when I checked in it turned out I had been upgraded free of charge!! Room was beautiful and so spacious. The bathroom is hands-down the nicest hotel bathroom I've ever seen, and the bed was comfortable. Shower was nicely powerful. Breakfast was basic but tasty. The staff I interacted with were friendly. For the price I paid I was very happy.

United KingdomSadly due to an unexpected electrical fault in the restaurant kitchen, they were unable to serve Sunday lunch on Mothers Day for the time we had booked, so had to give it a miss as we were unable to wait. Staff were very apologetic. These things happen though, we hope to be back soon!
Beautiful hotel, full of character. Superior room was gorgeous. Evening meal in restaurant was lovely, and staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Would love to go back soon.

United KingdomThe room was clean and a good size but the mattress a little soft for us. Again, breakfast good but no fruit on our second morning.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the open fire, a real character property. Adequate parking, not sure what it’s like when busier in the summer. Food and drink in the evening was very good and very reasonably priced ( pint and a pie night). Breakfast was well cooked.
