A very warm welcome at The Ham and Cheese, I ate a meal on my own in the bar area, felt very comfortable and the staff looked after me.

Point to note is that the Ham & Cheese is a popular public house and noise from the bar travels to the rooms directly above until around 22:30. Be patient when running hot water in the rooms...it does travel quite a distance but arrives eventually.

Lovely country pub in a peaceful location. Log fires in the bar and dining room. Great food. Plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Beds comfortable. Staff were excellent.

It would have been good to have somewhere to hang used towels.

Environment excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, good off road parking. Breakfast was excellent with a good options, cereals, porridge, full English. Excellent evening menu catering for all tastes, good choice of beers etc. A nice little touch was, if anyone was a little hungry, there was cereals, milk and Extra coffee and tea available in the hallway at no extra cost.

Not much really, the location means that you can hear road noise but this was not overly intrusive and out with the purview of the accommodation.

Evening meals were good quality and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly, helpful and informative about any issues about unavailable items and what alternatives were available.

Really lovely stay in a great pub, super food, fab atmosphere but wasn't noisy late at night. Staff really looked after us and really well positioned to explore the moors. Couldn't ask for more

EVERYTHING! big, warm comfy, immaculate room, very friendly and helpful staff The place has got the perfect balance between and great characterful old school local pub and also a lovely modern dining room. I always love to see darts league and pool league active in a pub. NO big screen tv blaring football is also a welcome change. Evening meal was faultless home made food and served by lovely staff, the drinks were reasonably priced and the place had a warm chattery atmosphere. The breakfast was 1st class, all quality ingredients and worth every penny and the breakfast lady was bright and cheerful and chatty.

Great place to stay , really friendly staff and very attentive, food served was really good quality and you get a fare portion and is far better than your average pub grub , I would say it is restaurant quality , drinks well priced and lovely atmosphere all around, clean large room with great shower and cosy warm with all you need at your fingertips, it’s literally 30 seconds off the A64 mid way between York and Scarborough, with very little road noise and sensible music levels means you can enjoy your day/evening and food in comfort , even the locals popping in say hello , overall a brilliant place and a credit to the owners , no hesitation staying here again , ACE .

The bedside tables have very sharp edges, could do with rounding off , hurts if you catch it with your head.
