Room was cold on arrival had to get the heating full on for quite a while to get it warm. Had to pre order breakfast which was of good quality but could have been more choice. Just a bit more luxury touches would be better.

Staff all helpful and friendly, room size was good and bed comfortable and shower was good.

Chairs were a bit uncomfortable and some quite rickety in the dining area. Would have liked to have had a few comfy chairs to sit and read whilst having a drink in the bar. But certainly not a problem to stop us going again.

Delightful place to stay for a few nights whilst we explored the area. Comfortable room Lovely food Friendly staff

    could not find fault

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready, but it was so comfortable sitting in front of a wood fire in a quaint country pub, that we didn't mind. The room was spotlessly clean, bed was comfortable with fresh linen and the treats were a lovely touch. Shower room was spacious and the shower had good pressure. The evening meal was amazing, and I would recommend booking as it is extremely popular with locals. Breakfast is ordered the evening before, and everything was cooked to perfection. Delightful selection of cereals, fruit, and yogurt. Excellent location for sightseeing and walks. Would stay there again

Previous reviews mentioned the location and road noise. This wasn’t an issue for us. Maybe because we stayed over Easter weekend and the traffic was less or maybe we aren’t as sensitive to noise as others. There was nothing we didn’t like.

Fantastic little find. Friendly staff, excellent food (highly recommend the Lamb Henry), a great spot for some really good walks, beautiful spacious room and en-suite (we stayed in Room 1). What’s not to like?

    Nothing at all

Beautiful setting, Pub has a lovely big patio area and serves delicious food. The room was so lovely and spacious, beautiful decorated and a fantastic shower. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Overall the best place we have stayed in England and we are well travelled. I also thought it was great value considering what you got. We will definitely be back next time we are around the Peak District just brilliant

Prebooked the night before the breakfast slip failed to make clear that a buffet of cereal, fruit, yogurt etc., would also be provided.

Lamb dinner was excellent, as was the sumptuous breakfast. Despite constant rain the open fire added warmth to the typical English pub ambience.

We couldn't use the kettle because the limescale was coated to the kettle and you wouldn't drink the water from it. The shower also showed high level of lime scale. Both of these were disappointing as this had clearly not been part of the normal cleaning of the room and lacked attention to detail. (photos are on our trip adviser review) Our evening meal. The menu that we saw on Facebook was only half available on the evening which was disappointing as we had already decided what to order only to have to change it. We were advised that the Chef had been prepping the new menu all day but failed to deliver all options. This was disappointing. The duck was slightly over done although the flavours were excellent. No steamed vegetable were delivered and we had to ask for these but it was corrected promptly. My husband had the chicken supreme with crispy potatoes, but the crispy potatoes were a jacket potato and this needs to be rectified as it is misleading on the menu. After the meal the bill arrived promptly with a pre order requirement for breakfast. We were not aware that it was pre order and after we had just eaten our evening meal we felt it was not an appropriate time to order for breakfast.

Lovely old fashioned country pub. Outside is very pretty and inside traditional with open fires , low ceilings and original features. Cosy. Arrived to a warm welcome from Charlotte, showed us to our room and returned to bar for a quick lunch. The tomato and basil soup was to die for. We asked if the menu was the same in the evening and was advised that a new menu would be available from 5.30 and we could view it on Facebook. Returned to our room which was spacious and modern. Large bed and shower room. High spec and at first view very happy. We took the time to view the new menu ready for our table at 7 pm. The bed was so so comfortable and a great sleep was had by both of us. Breakfast was okay, we had to ask for orange juice as this was not offered initially but a genuine mistake which was corrected. We decided not to eat there the second evening and used another local pub. As we didn't attend on the evening we did not pre order our breakfast. We actually found the next days breakfast much better than the previous day as cooked to order. All in all we have been to worse but we have also been to better, a few things needed to be looked at, but its a comfortable stay and the food is okay.

A very pleasant stay in a former coaching Inn... a quintessential English pub that's warm, friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, the room was spacious and well furnished with the bed being especially comfortable. The staff were very personable and helpful, in all - a wonderful 'b&b experience'!
