Toilet wasn’t fully clean on arrival, a few droplets of urine on the toilet seat, this was easy to clean, but again it didn’t bother me too much as I wasn’t staying long

It had everything I needed and I was only staying for 1 night, so it did the job

Bedroom was a little dated and I didn't like that one side of the bed was against the wall. If I needed the bathroom during the night I had to climb either over my partner or shuffle to the bottom of the bed.

The hotel is located on the main Promenade with local shops etc nearby. Bus 308/309 from Newcastle head into Whitley Bay, its about a 5 minute walk from Whitley Bay bus stop to hotel. Now with the hotel...... On the approach to hotel, from the outside it looked like a building suite being truthful, but I was wrong after having the situation explained to me after being checked in at Reception. The lovely staff at Reception clearly politely explained they're going through a good refurbishment programme, making the hotel looking good. My original room(2), unfortunately had issues with a fan in there but I was moved to room (19] which was much better indeed. Room (19) was very clean, good ensuite too. Breakfast was ok, breakfast is served from 6.30am. They're are around 17 steps up to hotel rooms & breakfast room from main reception. But overall yes, when I'm up here again- I'll definitely come back. The staff here who I seen and spoken too, were very helpful, patient and understanding which I respected, as I am a customer with learning disabilities.

Very old shower with little pressure and water never heats up fully No sea views: I was aware when booking that single rooms are at the back but not even the breakfast room has any views other than onto walls and old air conditioning unit

The lighting in the room could be better. I really appreciated having a table and a chair but it was hard to use the table as a desk because it was so gloomy in that corner of the room.

The Royal is a traditional, civilised hotel, and it seems to attract guests who are the same way because there were no problems with noise at all.The price I paid was very good for a bank holiday weekend, especially as a generous breakfast is included. (I was impressed that they had gluten-free toast.) My room was a decent size for a single room and had proper wooden furniture. The location is great, right on the seafront and only a short walk from everything. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Oh, and the shower worked perfectly, something I no longer take for granted in hotels.

The single bed in my room was very lumpy and the room rather too hot. The building seemed to be going through some renovation which made the exterior somewhat unappealing at present.

Lovely staff who treated you in a very friendly manner. The cooked breakfast buffet was fantastic with plenty to keep you going for the day. Conveniently located on the sea-front.

It’s a bit old, but honestly for the price it didn’t bother me.

Great location, super clean and affordable. I was just passing through and on a tight schedule, so I didn’t get to take full advantage of breakfast and the amazing ocean front view. It’s definitely a little worn, but very clean and comfortable. Host was also very kind.

The matress has seen better days, I could feel the springs. But I slept ok. I could hear people talking or maybe it was the TV in the morning - I think it was from the breakfast room. It would have been nice to have a comfy chair to sit in to read in the evenings, Or a lounge downstairs to use.

Breakfast was really good; the breakfast room was pleasant. Staff eager to help, especially when I first had trouble with the wifi.. My room was adequet, very clean (especially the bathroom) and the heater worked really well. As I had the wifi router in my room, wifi was fine.

Allocated basic twin was adequate at best. No warning that renovations are in progress hence no lounge or restaurant and boarded up windows at the front, plus skip, railings etc that made the whole building look very down at heel. Most fittings and fixtures were tired.

free upgrade to family room with sea view which meant we got extremely good value. Good breakfast. Parking free and available when we needed it. Location right on the sea front was brilliant. Easy to walk into town, or along the coast

The double bed was placed with one side against the wall. We moved it away from the wall ourselves in order to be able to get in and out of bed more easily. This meant moving it away from a headboard fixed to the wall and underneath the window. Not ideal.

Cooked breakfast, included in the price, was surprisingly good. Good quality sausages, bacon, black pudding, unusual hash browns, halved cooked tomatoes. Even the toast was good quality

The heating was the worst part, the room was mostly very cold, but when the heating kicked in it was very warm. Minor things are that the bathroom was really small/tight, and no desk in the room. (The place seems to be under renovation at the moment)

Liked the breakfast (proper full English) with nice staff. The location is perfect directly at the seafront. The pricing makes up for any of its shortcomings.

Arrived very late and they accommodated my late arrival, excellent value for money, superb breakfast and friendly attentive staff, is being currently updated, location great and had no issue with parking..
