The room was incredibly basic and hard to use. The lights did not all work, and the ones that did were so dim we couldn't see anything. The bed was fine (pillows were comfy at least), but the radiator was on max (I turned it off but it kept its heat for ages so it was so hot in there) and the windows were stiff to open, and when I did get it open all I could smell was cigarette smoke form the smokers outside which was horrible. There was no bin at all in the entire room, so I had to make a messy pile of rubbish in the corner. The mirrors were not in a good place to dry hair or anything (no plugs nearby) and there was no wardrobe for hanging clothes (we went to a wedding nearby so had formal suits which got creased). The shower had no curtain and was almost impossible to use as it did not stay in the holder, so I had to basically bathe sat down with the shower on top of me to get clean, like something from the 1940s!

The pub itself was lovely, and the staff were wonderful, very kind and helpful and let us check in early and out late which was great. The breakfast, although not included, was very very good. The car park was good and the code for room instead of a key was handy.

That the doors closed at 10pm and it didn’t state this anywhere when booking or I wouldn’t have booked it, the owners did accommodate me in the end but this should be pointed out before booking

There were no mirrors in the bedroom when getting dressed, I had to use the one in the bathroom, and there wasn't any natural light.

The staff were absolutely wonderful, the stay was wonderful. I wish it was closer to the town center. But there was lots of atmosphere and the whole experience was amazing. I was informed the Old Bell was from the 16th century which I loved.

This is a great place to stay. The lady of the house and bar staff couldn't do more for you. The menu was varied, and the food was 1excellent.

Two bin lorry collections in car park 6am and 6.30 woke me. No breakfast available before 10am (although it advertised "all day breakfast") Not good if you are traveling for work and have appointments)

Room clean but lots of extension cabling for appliances. Making tea involved putting the kettle on the floor as the lead was too short.

A lovely warm welcome. The food was exceptionally good (pulled pork & chipotle sauce for dinner, eggs Benedict for breakfast). The Old Bell is an old building with plenty of quirks and features. The bedroom was large and spacious.

Nothing not to like!

Daniella and her team were very welcoming, cheerful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The venue was clean throughout, with a spacious dining area. The food was lovely, tasty, well presented and filling! The bedroom I had was quaint suitable for a solo traveller with TV, en suite and freshly laundered bed linen and towels. Overall, I would highly recommend The Old Bell as a decent, safe place to stay.

The room, No.4, was really a single-sized room with a double bed squeezed in, the bathroom door did not open fully. I had to sleep against a hot radiator and hardly slept a wink all night, the matres was hard and I had to climb out of the bed, as it was up against a wall, to go to the toilet and could not help disturbing my wife, therefore depriving her of sleep. The TV remote locked up, I could switch it on but none of the buttons worked and no staff were available to help at 7 am. The bathroom was very tight and unsatisfactory, and looking around the room there were so many other issues; the duvet did not seem big enough, use of gang sockets, loose wiring, and just not enough room for two people to comfortably use it.

The staff were beyond exceptional! They go above and beyond for you and are super accommodating. I felt a warm welcome as soon as I stepped through the front door to check in, a lovely family pub downstairs and a nice clean and quiet room for you to stay upstairs, for the entire visit I was treated like a member of a family ❤️ Will definitely return! The service at the pub was fast, the food was absolutely delicious, good selection on the menu. The premises do close at a certain time but it's never been an issue for me and there's always a member of staff staying on the premises so you can always contact them. Definitely a memorable visit and I hope to return there soon.
