How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Absolutely nothing was wrong with this place at all
Everything, Nick and Margie are the most wonderful hosts. The old potting shed is such a delight to stay in. Everything or anything you could need is there and WOW the Continental breakfast was delicious. We loved the picnic basket the food came in on a morning what a lovely touch, beautifully presented

Lovely quiet location. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Accommodation was clean, comfy and had all of the amenities with a great continental breakfast each morning. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful and private B&B, exceptionally clean. Lovely breakfast brought to us every morning which we enjoyed at our leisure. Very comfortable bed, gorgeous shower and bath. Very good location for visiting York. Thank you Nick & Margie

What a beautiful property nestled in a perfect location just a short journey from the centre of York! We had a fabulous stay in The Old Potting Shed. The facilities were absolutely spotless and the hosts made lots of lovely extra touches to make it special. The breakfast hamper and robes were a lovely addition. Very easy to get an Uber in and out of the centre. We will certainly stay again! Fantastic value for money.

Slightly difficult to find. Could be fixed by using the drop pin function on Google maps.
Fantastically clean room, lovely bath in bathroom, comfortable bed, excellent TV with casting ability and Connection to usual streaming services. Custom requests for breakfast met with no additional charge.

Other than the weather all was really good!
This place was all really good. The owner was very helpful but not obtrusive, the facilities were spotless and of a very good standard. Would definitely recommend to others.

The only item that could do with improvement is a light over the steps now that it gets dark early - otherwise all else was good.
Breakfast better than expected and arrived on time and really good food. Hosts friendly and helpful re local eateries. Accomodation was immaculate and everything worked as it should - one of the best b&bs' we have stayed in.

Location is absolutely perfect if you’re wanting to explore York as it’s a 15 min drive to the centre and also right round the corner from the designer outlet if you like shopping. However, it’s also perfectly tucked away in the lovely village of Naburn which is surrounded by lots of greenery! Perfect for either relaxing or exploring. Breakfast was lovely as the lovely couple bring it you in a basket at your preferred time. Bed was super comfy and bath was lovely

Lovely stay at The Old Potting shed. Nice big comfy bed. You really can tell the effort put in from the quality sheets and towels which smelt so fresh. Absolutely spotless and serviced daily. Breakfast was presented well. Great location to get the bus into York City. Nick & Margie both very nice and welcoming. Enjoyed our stay.

Can't fault anything. It really was perfect.
We've stayed near York many times but nothing compares to The Old Potting Shed. The accommodation was spotless. A very large, comfy bed and stunning bathroom. The attention to detail was inspirational. The breakfast was delicious. Nick and Margie were truly amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Perfect hosts, sensational accommodation in a fantastic location. Can't fault any of it. It really was superb. We will go back and stay again. Didn't want to come home!

Parking and turning might be an issue for some, as the entrance and turning space is quite tight. Needs a fair bit of manouvering to drive out onto the road, wouldn't want to try reversing out as it is quite a busy road.
Lovely converted barn with all the amenities for a first class B&B. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable, and bathroom spacious and modern. Both bath and shower, which was appreciated. The owners are very helpful and responsive to any issues. Lovely continental breakfast, delivered precisely on time. Very good pub, The Plough, only a short drive away for dinner.
