How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

There was nothing to dislike
The breakfast was perfect for us both every morning. Very warm and friendly welcome, both Justin and Julie are very knowledgeable with respect to St. Ives, surround area and Cornwall in general. Quite clearly had travelled and experienced the area and were able to advise everything you would need to know about the place you intended to visit that day.

Justin, Julie & Arthur were the perfect hosts, very welcoming and friendly and they made a real effort to make sure all guests enjoyed their stay each day, getting the most out of their time away too. Arthur was very well behaved throughout the stay too and also very friendly and relaxed which was lovely. They both have a wide knowledge of the surrounding areas which also was greatly appreciated when planning each day as well. The breakfast served every morning was wonderful, with a great range to choose from, accommodating guests who have special food requirements such as meat free and vegan options. The property itself was clean and well decorated, all making our stay feel really comfortable.

Our stay at The Olive Branch was absolutely amazing. Since we arrived we felt like at home because Justin and Julie were really friendly and kind. They helped us with our visits in ST Ives and they made scrumptious breakfasts every morning.

The parking was a great addition. We were blocking other cars in so would have had to arrange to move the car if other guests needed to be out, but it didn’t prove to be a problem during our stay.
The B&B owners were really friendly. The decor was all fresh and felt new - even nicer than in the photos! The breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Justin, Julie (and Arthur!) were all fantastic. From the minute we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and Justin was eager to help us with recommendations both within St Ives and the local area. The property was beautiful, a real home-from-home! Location was perfect, a quick walk down the hill and you were exactly where you wanted to be. Special recommendation for vegetarians/vegans, the breakfast is the best we have ever had! Julie's homemade sausages were incredible and she was even kind enough to provide us with her recipe, with the scrambled tofu topping off a perfect breakfast. Would highly recommend The Olive Branch to anyone who wishes to visit St Ives.

We had to climb 2 flights of stairs. But, since st. Ives is hilly we took it as training

We liked everything about this property.
The Olive Branch is great. Everything is well presented and well run. The hosts are fantastic, very knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast is delicious, Julie deserves praise for her eggs, I tried scrambled, fried, and poached they were all great! We stayed for three nights in March 2022 (just as the country was emerging from the COVID19 restrictions) the stay was comfortable, and enjoyable.

There was everything that you needed in your room and in the hotel. The hosts were fabulous. I would like to thank them both for my birthday card and cake also. A lovely touch x
