High cleaning standard. Staff very helpful, checkin and night porter. Thank you to the night porter who safely seen us to our room when arriving back at the hotel and for letting us in when I didn’t have my key on me.

We booked a superior double and, mistakenly, expected the bed to be a king size. Unfortunately it was a standard double and we're both large, so we had a couple of disturbed and uncomfortable nights. If we stayed again we'd book a twin room. We weren't too keen on the frosted glass in the bathroom door as we disturbed each other further when using the bathroom in the night when we put the light on.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Good selection of real ales and wines at the bar. Excellent location for exploring Chester and good value for money.

Although not a problem for us, but the noise from the bar below was quite loud.

The location is excellent for the city centre. The room was clean and the food (we had an evening meal) was good quality and reasonably priced.

Spacious bedrooms, comfortable bed. Charming ambience in this ancient, but recently renovated, building. Some lovely home-brewed beers in the bar. Breakfasts were quality, and generous.

Despite the draugh excluder brushes nailed to the window frame it was still a bit fresh if you got too close to it. They did provide an oil fired radiator though, so that could be remedied. Wardrobe space was very limited. For 2 people for 2 nights it was just about big enough. I do appreciate that this is a listed building, though, so what they can do to alter it is quite limited.

Bed was comfy, shower was roomy. Decor was light and airy. We were lucky and were on the ground floor, so only a couple of stairs to negotiate.

The plug socket by the dressing table wasn’t working so it was difficult to use the hairdryer. No plug socket on the same wall as the bed which made using CPAP machine a little awkward but we managed by using the chair to put it on. However we could have raised these issues with staff and I feel certain they would have been rectified. We managed and as we were only there for two nights it certainly didn’t spoil the weekend.

Steak and Ale pie for dinner was superb, lovely well cooked tasty chips. Served nice and hot. Full English breakfast was huge, again really well cooked and very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. Nice to try the real ales. Room was very clean.
