My one mark down is due to the mattresses. They are at the end of their use. I could feel the springs.

The staff are fantastic. Very young and welcoming team who know their jobs well and are efficient and personable. We stayed in Beanstalk which was quiet just as advertised. Breakfast was delicious and varied.

Perhaps a little pricey, but it wasn't a major issue.

Staff we excellent. Setting very nice. The food was excellent. The only thing was the room was a little small, but that is a minor point.

Dinner was fine but a few more meal choices would be better - wine was on the steep side. Slightly sour waitress but possibly just shy No milk in the room for tea first thing - but were only there one night so no big issue. Get the phone number of the pub sorted out on Booking.

Really lovely location and quaint/quirky pub, with lots of different levels and all with open fires. Little bit of confusion with Booking and the Pub itself as apparently when I called the number on Booking to make a dinner reservation, the person who answered told me that the number on booking is wrong and that I should dial the pub number directly. We stayed here as we were visiting Glyndebourne - and the location is good - just an 8 min drive so v convenient. Room was cosy (very cosy) and there was a bit of an issue with the shower as it was dripping continuously but didn't bother us. Breakfast was wonderful - great choice, fabulous local produce and the best croissants I've eaten Overall a really enjoyable stay, cosy, romantic and nice service.

    Single beds or duvets

The breakfast and dinner were both excellent and the staff were great. We did ask for single beds or at least two single duvets but sadly that did not happen. Otherwise an excellent Inn.

There was a great wine selection however quite expensive. The room right at the top had ceiling beams that were very low meaning that anyone average height and above had to bend each time. The stairs up to this room were also quite steep, it would benefit from a hand rail.

Staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly. The bedrooms were small but lovely and quiet. The pub/restaurant has a great rustic feel and the food was excellent!

9am was a bit late to start breakfast. There was no milk in the room to make a cup of tea/coffee. Nor any breakfast tea, though there was Earl Grey and herbals. I requested an early checkin and was told it would cost an extra £35. I felt that was excessive.

Very characterful pub with excellent ales and the food looked good. I enjoyed breakfast. Great location and friendly staff.

Dinning room could have been a bit lighter

Ideal location for those walking the South Downs Way. The room we had was beautifully designed with a very large bathroom. Really great breakfast, with great choice and cooked freshly for us. The bar has local beers from the brewery in the next road.

The pub didn't seem to have its own car park, therefore its a case of finding a parking space in the village. As we were walking the South Downs Way it would have been great if the Breakfast Room could have opened at 8am, rather than 9am, so that we could have started walking earlier, but other than that all good and recommend a stay at this pub.

Good location in the centre of the small village of Firle. Good sized bedroom with good shower. Friendly staff. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious, a good choice of wine and drinks and the serving staff (Poppy) very helpful. The breakfast menu choice was much better than just the usual standard English breakfast offering, plus the choice of pastries, juices etc was well presented, plus a selection of newspapers.

A more flexible approach to early check in would be helpful to visitors and staff who appeared to have little discretion. We were staying in order to attend an afternoon performance at Glyndebourne and wanted to change after travelling. I called to ask for early check in at 2pm to be offered this for £35 a room. This comes across as greedy not hospitable. Whilst we were able to access 1 room of 3 at 2pm on the day 'as a favour' the others were not offered despite appearing to be ready for occupancy. An avoidable poor first impression

A great location and a splendid breakfast. The rooms are well equipped with modern decor in a pleasing contrast to the old world pub environment. A good range of local beers and good staff.

165 pounds was expensive for essentially a fairly basic room. We were asked to pay an extra 25 pounds for our dog once already committed to our booking. The additional charge was unjustified for a room with wooden flooring and very limited extra cleaning requirements.

Dinner was excellent and staff very friendly.

Did feel like the accommodation area was new or recently taken over eg incorrect Internet instructions, told not to lose key as no spares, milk missing for drinks... and the rooms were way too bright early morning as thin curtains.

Pretty location and pub Very friendly staff Meal was amazing
