How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Nothing to complain about!
An amazing apartment in a great location. Just a few minutes walk from the Castle and the Cathedral, with private parking and a terrace with a view, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The decoration was first rate and everything we needed was provided.We particularly enjoyed the small sun room - a lovely spot to relax. And we appreciated the bottle of Prosecco and the cakes! Probably the best apartment we have visited in the UK.

Cozy apartment, finished to a very high standard. We loved the view of Lincoln and the little sun room. Our hosts were very easy to communicate with and left plenty of tea, coffee, milk and a welcome bottle of Prosecco and cakes for us. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Unfortunatey, the bed was on the hard side and the pillows offereed limited support when slept on. Extra pillows didn't really help. Only other criticism is that it wasn't immediately clear which door was the entrance to our apartment.
Location to the castle and cathedral were excellent. Plenty of pubs, cafes, and restaurants within walking distance. Apartment was spotless & wery well appointed, and everything you could need for the stay was provided. Complementary milk and cakes were a nice touch.

That we’d only booked one night: we wanted to stay longer!
The location was excellent- very quiet and relaxing. The decor was fabulous- very chic with a high quality finish. Loved the welcome on the blackboard and the extras in the fridge. Wonderful place and great communication prior to our stay.

Just a personal preference but I like white sheets and towels rather than dark colors. But I can't fault any other details!
A beautiful little apartment in a fabulous location with parking. Spotless and stylish. Highly recommended.

Everything about our stay was perfect, had a quick chat from Valerie before we arrived to let me know the apartment was ready. The wow factor when we walked in was immense, the furniture and decor is top class and the cleanliness was perfect. The views from the terrace were fantastic, we were able to watch countless firework shows from the comfort of the snug, and in the morning enjoyed the views of Lincoln with a fresh coffee. The bathroom is well appointed with a large bath & walk in shower, whilst the bedroom is simply perfect, I can't remember the last time I slept so well.

a little more local information in a pack , maps and attractions ? this is in no way a critiscism as the information centre is a mere 3 mins walk away. This property is very new and we already want to return.
The location is what really stands out for this apartment, having a free designated parking spot was also a major factor in choosing The Rectors Retreat, the bathroom facilities as in a lovely big shower also mean a bonus for us and definitely having our own outside space for dining/reading and relaxing. Everything we needed was there for us and we wished we were staying longer. Fabulous cooking facilities and a lovely welcome bottle of fizz and cakes along with a welcome message made us smile.

We liked it all, though the entrance was having some work done - this should not be a problem soon though.
Plenty of space for two people. Excellent location, very near to Castle and Cathedral. Very clean and well-equipped property. Patio offering superb views over the city. Very helpful owners, who left some welcome goodies. Thorough written briefing beforehand giving all the details. Individual parking space.
