A very friendly welcome in a lovely historic inn.

    Only the weather !

We had a lovely overnight stay in this very traditional inn whilst visiting a friend who had recently moved to Eaton. The staff were all extremely welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed a delicous evening meal from a very varied menu featuring local produce. Although perhaps I shouldn't have, I succumbed to the dessert menu too which meant that I was so full I had to miss breakfast which was a shame.

It was a good choice to stay in Red Lion Hotel and we think about to come back.

Our room was in the first floor and the stairs were steep, but there are also rooms on the ground floor. The usage of the shower was a bit difficult , it was a little problem to tune the temperature .

The breakfast was good. Diner was excellent. Very friendly staff. The building is very old , but everthing is in good condition. If you like that atmosphere, you will be very happy. The room was spacious enough with Wi-Fi and television. There was possibility to have a tea and coffee in the room, 2 bottles of mineral water was also there.Car parking was no problem.Bus stop to the city is near the hotel If you plan to stay in Norwich, it is worth to think to stay in Red Lion Hotel

The food was excellent, but far too much, could have the option of small or large plate would be suited by all, felt awful having to leave good food on place.

Very good breakfast and location suited us well as near to university .

The room was situated at the back of the property so was woken quite early by the kitchen staff. Bathroom facilities could be better.

Good location, close to the A11. Quiet at night aided a good night’s sleep.

Room very small & cramped. Shower floor was lifting, sink coming away from the wall. Although food very nice it was on the pricey side - £18 for a burger. Room on the higher price side too and didn't include breakfast which was an extra £12 each.

Beautiful building. Lovely food. Very close to Norwich centre and the UEA.

Narrow windy stairs to get to room but helpful staff. Request a room out back if you have mobility challenges.

Big car park, restaurant on site but you need to book for evening meal at weekend, good room size.

My only comment would be I only spotted the dinner specials board the following morning. The restaurant was busy so it wasn’t obvious. But this is a mint thing.

We had a warm welcome after a long journey. Our room was comfortable and clean. We had a tastey dinner and great breakfast. We were visiting UEA and if our son ends up studying there I would definitely stay here when visiting him.

The shower in room 3 is abit pathetic. The walls are paper thin and you can here everything in the room next door (2&3) and pub downstairs.

Charming old building, love the wobbly floors and old beams, second time I've stayed here, will stay again. The rooms are very comfortable. The food downstairs is excellent.

Very old pub/restaurant and access to rooms was via a very steep, narrow and frankly dangerous staircase. Floors are uneven which is to be expected due to the age of the building. Layout of the room was poor so you had to sit on the bed to watch TV! I was unimpressed to be woken by a dirty great John Lewis/Waitrose delivery truck right outside my window at 6:30am on Sunday morning! Thought for £100 I might get breakfast!

Location was convenient for UEA and Waitrose! Carpark was good and it looked like the food was good, as restaurant was full but even as a resident I couldn’t get a table!

We booked a SUPER de LUXE bedroom for £100 which to our disappointment was a small basic bedroom with paint peeling off the radiators, dated (not antique) furniture, bathroom with a cracked window pane. We didn't have breakfast as we would have had to pay £12 each extra, so cannot comment.

Clean and quiet with window overlooking the main street and not too far from city centre.

The room was on the chilly side, and no heating at all in bathroom. The shower did not have much power, even on higher setting, maybe someone needs to take a look at this?

Friendly and attentive staff. Lovely toiletries. Appreciated the bottles of mineral water in room.

It wasn't a problem for us but, having now stayed there and looking back at the information provided on the website, there is no mention about the narrow spiral staircase to the first floor rooms - wouldn't suit everyone.

Good location. Beds very comfortable. Lots of choice for evening meal with specials board as well as standard menu. Excellent food - very generous portions.

My two daughters shared a room in the stable block. The room was exceptionally cold. The heater in the main bedroom did help to warm the room a bit but it had to stay on to maintain any heat. The lighting in the room was extremely dim sadly. The bathroom although a nice size had no heating at all - so it was freezing cold. There wasn't even a heated towel rail. There was only one light out of three working in their bathroom. There was also mould at the bottom of the shower. There were no coat hooks on the back of our door or our daughters door. To be honest the stable block room was very cramped for our adult daughters and probably would be better served as a single room. It was okay for one night but any longer I think would have been a problem. It would have also been nice to have had luxury hot chocolate sachets as an option with the other beverages. Maybe even a couple of wine miniatures as a welcome gesture or slippers to keep you warm particularly in the stable block.

The location was perfect. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Food was excellent. Breakfast superb as we had a choice of something light or the option of a hearty breakfast. The evening meal was excellent and again fantastic service.

It was very dark in places. Room 5 only had one bulb out of three working in the shower room, which had no heating either. Shower in room 3 was difficult to control.

Lots of character, wonderful food and drink. Friendly staff and a really comfy bed. Perfect location for UEA.
