Contact via booking.com wasn't very personal, hence my expectations were lowered about the hotel, but exceeded once I stayed there. Afternoon tea was poor and staff in Reading Room seemed unhappy and disorganised or overworked.

The plug in the bath tub didn't fit very well so we had to jiggle it a bit to make it fit. More info on how to work the fire, what the extra remotes were for etc would of been good. Staff serving food should have hair up. Lift from carpark would be great as well or option of help from carpark. Bed a little hard.

Lovely room, rose petals on bed for our anniversary was an added bonus. Food was very good, staff confused with drinks order and confused us but apart from that good. We booked as half board and the option for evening food was good. Breakfast was lovely in the morning.

Staff were very welcoming and the welcome drink was a nice surprise. The hotel location was perfect, very convenient for buses, trains, restaurants and the theatre. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.

There is no air conditioning. If you have heavy luggage, you have to consider whether you can manage the few steps at the front door. Though it is close to the town centre and the railway station, the location is a bit dark at night.

As soon as I got out of the car, I was greeted by a staff who helped me with the luggage. The staff at the reception was cheerful and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The restaurant served very good food.

the parking directions were not good, we had to enter a road the at was no entry to get to it! lucky only one space available, wouldnt want to park anywhere further away either.

all of it really, room was very spacious, a little tired in places for a 5 star hotel, but otherwise it was very comfortable, the restaurant was a bit slow on drink order, but otherwise all good, will stay again!

Poor sound insulation between the rooms, people banging doors in the corridor woke me up multiple times. Cleanliness in the bathroom wasn’t up to scratch. Breakfast was average at best with limited choice.

room is comfortable but needs an upgrade on furniture and infrastructure. The room did not have A/C, although the specs said the opposite. Did not need it, but on a hot day might ruin your stay.

I was put in the new building at the back of the hotel, and it was a bit of a trek to get to after a long day of traveling.

Really liked the room, which was spacious, and the bathroom was gorgeous - large with a walk-in shower. The location was great for shopping and restaurants.

Price was a little high and minimum stay of two nights because we were staying a Saturday. But overall it was worth it given the convenience of the location and quality of the room - which even had a flask of fresh milk in the fridge for your tea/coffee!

All six of us had gorgeous rooms in the main building. Exquisite decor. So decadent with luxurious bed linen and sumptuous bath robes - a real treat of a weekend getaway to meet up with girlfriends. So pleased to have decided to change from a more rural location. Easy walk to/from station for members of the group travelling from further afield and great connections to Heathrow for group members who were flying. Staff were fantastic. Gave us the private room in the bar on our first night for pre-dinner drinks which meant we didn't disturb other guests. Fantastic.

We were aware the lift in the House part of the hotel wasn't working. The exercise to get up 4 floors probably did us good - however the stairwell really needed cleaning.

Check in was straight forward. The room was great, especially the additional space. Dinner in the Reading Room was lovely, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The food fantastic.

On arrival we couldn’t find the car park . Better signage & directions would help . We also thought breakfast was overpriced so ate next door at carluccios .

Car parking difficult - suggest they should have a booking system. The lift was out of order which was quite a problem as my partner has rheumatoid arthritis and stairs are difficult. When booking I checked that there was a lift.

The bathroom door wouldn't close and once reported someone came to sort it out, which I was told is a common occurance. The coffee pods and milk had not been replaced. Cleaning materials and other bedding and other dirty housekeeping stuff were left outside the room all night, and the lifts were not working. I understand lifts break down, but the other things, Housekeeping should have sorted these minor points which is disappointing. It is unlikely we would stay again.

The room was comfortable, breakfast was good and staff pleasant.
