Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomEverything a little worn. Rooms quite expensive for the level of facilities.
A traditional seaside hotel with somewhat old-fashioned decor. Rooms were large and comfortable. Bathrooms were good but, again, a bit dated. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is fantastic - just over the bridge from the quay if you are arriving/departing on the Lundy ferry.

United KingdomThe breakfast at 14.50 for continental was very poor value as when we arrived at 8.30 there was no fresh fruit and no milk. Not much choice of cereal. When we asked the waitress, the comment was I will see if there is any fruit in the kitchen, also the milk was not passed to us directly but placed on the main table for all to share. Continental breakfast should include cheese meats or croissant.
The room was very clean the bed very comfortable

CanadaSome restaurant staff seemed a little new and needed a bit more training, especially around wine knowledge and serving.
Good food at the restaurant. Location was central to the downtown. Loved the lounge on the upper floor.

United KingdomMarked 'facilities' because of a substandard breakfast on our first morning - we opted for the buffet and coffee, but there were no fresh bread rolls and limited fruit available to have with cereal; we requested two slices of toast each but only got 6 half slices of poor quality. Small things, but annoying. We avoided breakfast for the rest of our stay. Also, in our first floor room overlooking the bridge, we had no net curtains, so felt rather exposed to people passing or on the building site over the road.
The room, bed and the building generally were very good, and the staff were pleasant and helpful.

United KingdomService at breakfast was slow. Had to fetch a waitress to take our order after 20 minutes, even though two were standing at the entrance and one had seated us (so knew we were there.
Well appointed rooms - the Kingsley room is nice for a pre-dinner drink, with good views over the river. Dinner was nice, with good veggie options.

United KingdomMy daughter (7) and I had dinner on the Friday night, the food was great and the portions were absolutely massive, actually too big for us but I'd rather have the choice to not eat all of it than to leave dinner hungry! The only downside was the service being slow and unprofessional. I had to remind the waitress that we'd not yet had our drinks after watching her and another waitress chatting to the barman for about ten minutes. Their conversation was easily overheard and revolved around them counting down the hours until they finished their shift... there were two hours left. It didn't make for a pleasant atmosphere because they clearly didn't want to be working and the slow service was a theme through the evening; menus were given to us and then I had to prompt someone to take our order, then we had to wait an age for the food, especially with the dessert. The breakfast options were good and portions again were big, but I felt at £15 for a cooked breakfast and £14.50 for the continental (per person!!) it was way overpriced. I spent £29 for both of us to have the continental... so cereal, fruit and croissants... £29!!!! We were initially brought one croissant and when the waiter asked if we would like another I had to refrain from flippantly telling him that for £29 I could buy half a bakery so yes, bring us more! This was my only complaint about the stay and obviously not an issue if you aren't planning on having dinner or breakfast there.
The property itself and was great, well kept, clean, nice facilities such as the lounge to use pre/post check in/out were a nice feature. The room was huge and better than I'd booked which was a brilliant surprise.

United KingdomThe room was nothing special for the price we paid, even after the upgrade. Bottled water in the room would have been nice.
We were upgraded to a bigger room which was appreciated in very hot and humid conditions. Location is very convenient for exploring Bideford. Tasty and plentiful breakfast.

United KingdomWhen opened this hotel would have been a prime location which suffers now from being at a busy and noisy cross roads. Sadly this leaves choices between opening windows, with added noise and pollution, or being cooked and stifled. I would like the hotel to consider its environmental impact - use of electric fans and toilet cleaning products in particular and was that a noisy kitchen fan from breakfast time?
Obviously the team are woking hard to manage for quality. It is an elegant building, with its own parking. I asked for a room with a view and it does look over the river and its bridge. The rooms were well presented, clean and with good provision. I needed to change rooms and this was done willingly, though with apology as I took a downgrade to a less choice room as it was quieter. I would prioritise room improvement in the less favoured rooms, work to partner the old railway line and make this a quieter room with a view.
