Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing worthy of note.
The Sandhills is conveniently located close to Sandown station. Good for those on foot and easy access by car with adequate off street parking. We received a very warm welcome on my wife's and my arrival and that bonhomie continued through our stay. Excellent breakfast, one of the best. Our good humoured hosts, Andy and David, looked after us very well, as did Andy's Mum who is also on the team. Being out of season, we were the only guests, but that didn't make any difference to the service we received and was probably a benefit. The owners live on site. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town centre where there is a good choice of bus routes across the island if you are on foot. There is a multitude of restaurant choices in Sandown, so you won't go hungry! The Castle Inn on Fitzroy Street is a lovely welcoming traditional local community pub. Being traditional, they don't serve food, but you are welcome to bring in a take away. All in all this proved to be a most comfortable and relaxing vacation.

United KingdomJust minor points really. Ringing the bell to ask questions or for bar service, although it was always answered politely and promptly. Set time for breakfast allocated on day of arrival, although we were accommodated on our last day with an earlier time so we could catch our ferry. Advise either pre-booking or eating before 7pm, to eat in any of the pubs or restaurants in Sandown. The fish & chip shop closed at 8pm. We went out at 8.30pm one evening and ended up with sandwiches from the supermarket.
Compact and comfy twin room. New carpet and what looked like a newly refitted but bijou en suite. Comfy beds. Tea & coffee making facilities provided. Breakfast was cooked well and had to be selected fromna choice of options the night before. Help yourself cereals, fruit juice, and yogurt available each morning too. Bar was well-stocked & competively priced compared to the local pubs/restaurants. Plates & cutlery provided if you order a takeaway for your evening meal. Sandhills is a good value family run B&B.

United KingdomJust a few things would have improved the room...a mirror on the wall in the room that wasn't as high as the one in the en-suite! Accessibility to the wardrobe was difficult. Maybe the provision of a basic hairdryer would be useful. These are small negative comments compared to the value for money.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and bed linen spotlessly clean. Breakfast was adequate and cooked well. Very good value for the amount charged.

United KingdomA little dated in communal areas and breakfast room, the property could do with some fresh coat of paint and wood flooring or new carpets. Shower wasn't so easy to get right. The bunk beds were a bit too creaky.
Outstanding customer service, great communication prior to arriving at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful to all our needs. The room we had was perfect for our needs. We also had access to the lounge for kids to play and watch TV. You can see the sea from the bedroom window in clear day. Free Parking available on site was such a bonus and the hotel was literally less than 10 mins walk from Beach and high street. Preorder Breakfast was good, I would probably recommend to sauce better vegetarian sausages. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a break next to the beach on a good value stay with no compromise customer service. Thank you Andy & Team see you in the future 😜

United KingdomGot a bit hot (like everywhere did) at the beginning of our stay but nothing the hotel could do about that and they do have fans available if needed.
Small hotel in a quiet location near the station in Sandown. Greeted on arrival by one of the staff who was very polite and friendly. Showed us where everything was and took us to our room directly. The room was a reasonable size with a separate wet room. The bed was comfortable but there was not much room on one side between the bed and the wall so I had to be careful when getting out of bed that I didn't stub my toes. Breakfasts were chosen the day before. I picked near enough the full cooked breakfast every day and it was delicious. Nothing was ever under or overcooked and it was all very tasty. Overall I was impressed with the place and if I'm ever needing somewhere to stay in Sandown I would definitely return.
