The room was clean but very tired which I was not expecting,. Needs updating. However this is reflected fairly in the room prices.

No information in the room itself about WiFi (or lack of it) - I just didn’t use for the 1 night - or who to contact if there was a significant issue while I was there. The room itself was very clean and bathroom has been partially updated and was clean, but grouting and seals in shower had a lot of mould. Minimal furniture in the room, adequate but had a very budget-feel

Lovely big room, recently decorated. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Very suitable for visiting friends who live in the village. Self check in worked out fine

Bed needs renewing as a little lumpy although we slept well. There was a fire door in the corridor to the room that banged loudly however this was only from around 8.30am when staff were cleaning etc, so didn't really effect us. I can honestly say that if a little work was done and the pub open this place would be a perfect place to stay if you prefer a quieter location than the city centre.

The location was great for visiting Durham and surrounding areas. The staff we met were lovely and nothing too much trouble. Easy to do the self checkin by phone, I previously was a little concerned as I've read very negative reviews regarding this however we were given a mobile number to call on arrival and Beth guided us in so no problem with this. Room was basic as expected from understanding the pub is closed and looking for new owners and very cheap rate. Just needs a little tlc but everything was there for us.

Internet signal not great. The window wouldn’t shut which, as it was a particularly windy night, kept blowing open.

Very quick drive into the city, great value for money, nice big room which was clean and had comfy beds and a good shower. Really nice breakfast, staff were very friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the pub wasn’t opened for an evening meal. Which at the time of booking we believed it was and was one of the reasons we booked it. The recommendation for the sister hotel however did work well and the food was lovely. We didn’t see any staff but the instructions that we received worked well and were easy to follow.

Cheap and cheerful all you need to rest your head. After reading some of the reviews I wasn't looking forward to it. But was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Rooms clean spacious with tea and coffee facilities all we needed. Would defo return

I had a room at the front and road traffic starts early.

Ease of access from motorway. Proximity to Durham and bus stop outside for travel to Newcastle. Friendliness of staff and cleanliness of room.

The fire door on the corridor just outside our room From 7.00am constantly banging. A soft close or slow spring on the door would have helped.

Room was large along with newly tiled Bathroom. Both very clean with nice clean linen. Wasn’t expecting breakfast so that was a nice surprise. Would like that room again if it wasn’t for the fire door just outside the room.

Bathrooms need a paint spruce up. Corridors need some decorating.

Until the day before travelling we were expecting to be staying in a functioning pub, which is what we wanted. In fact, the pub was to all intents and purposes, closed. Just the accommodation was open. Our small double bed in Room 2 was lumpy and uncomfortable. It was very hard to fill the kettle from the bathroom tap. There were no towel rails or hooks in the bathroom, It might be that all these issues will be addressed by the new owners.

The continental breakfast was good and the staff very helpful and friendly. We liked the location because the bus service was reliable and the riverside walk into the city centre (about 5 km) delightful. The room was spacious and well-equipped.

Breakfast was simple but fine considering the price paid. Room was comfortable and perfectly fine for a short stay. Shame the pub was closed, which might put some people off, but if you want to stay on the cheap then this is the place for you.
