Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe Swan Hotel is on the main through road in Whalley and opposite The Dog Inn. The night we stayed, The Dog Inn were having a very lively karaoke night. Our room vibrated!!! The noise didn’t ease until well after midnight. For us the breakfast choice was very limited. Our room wasn’t ‘made up’ after the first night even though we used the door hanging sign request.
Our room was very clean, spacious and the bed incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was spacious too and had a separate bath and shower.

United KingdomI had booked primarily on location and was pleased to find the accomodation to a high standard. The staff and the facilities were excellent; the rooms are over a pub so a little noise is expected on an evening. My only teeny tiny gripe would be that there was no milk in my room for coffee in the morning (that said I'm sure if I had asked for it, it would have been provided with a great smile!)

United KingdomThere were no cups nor drink glasses when we returned to our room just after midnight and no means to request any because no phone in the room. The bedroom was right at the front and the road outside was busy with revellers until around 1:00am The lovely extensive cooked breakfast served on a cold plate, no porridge and the cereals were limited to three varieties only.
The breakfast was massive, well cooked and delicious. I like the fact the hotel was sufficiently flexible to allow us back late at night. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was well equipped with towels.

United KingdomMy only comment here is about communication. We had to ask our taxi driver how to get back into the hotel when we returned late - it wasn't clear if we should be using the front door or one of the rear doors. Not a huge issue (it didn't take long to work out) but it would have been useful to know rather than having to see which doors actually had a keyhole to try. When we did find the right door, it did have a "residents' entrance" sign, but this wasn't visible in the dark.
Very well kept and spacious room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean and uncluttered, and a big, comfortable bed. Surprisingly big bathroom as well.

United KingdomWe phoned the hotel to confirm our stay and say that we may be late as we were attending a wedding nearby but the hotel has changed its phone number and it hasn’t been changed on the website etc. it is also no longer part of the Vixen Group who we kept being put through to.
Once we got to The Swan, it was easy to check in and the room was exceptionally large and very comfortable. Breakfast was good, a small selection of cereals, 3 juices to choose from, fresh fruit and a cooked breakfast, coffee/tea was made specifically for you. Good service from the staff. Our room was directly over the bar so it was quite noisy until it was closing time (would expect this anyway but thought I’d mention it) but once the doors closed it was really quiet considering it’s on a pretty main road through Whalley.

United KingdomUnfortunately, I stayed over at a weekend. And I would NOT recommend, unless you plan on going to bed after 1am or you want to listen to the awful karaoke and music of everyone downstairs. I stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night, I had to be up for 7am most mornings. I often didn't sleep till midnight. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be staying there again if it's a weekend trip.
The staff were lovely, the room was also fantastic I have no issues there
