Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAt breakfast in the orangery you had to walk to the main breakfast room at the other end of the hotel to get things like fruit juices etc. Also the availability of gluten free options was very poor. no rolls no pizza which should be easily available? Also the disturbance at the wedding reception and attendance of the police did not help a good nights sleep.
The location was superb. The ability to take dogs was brilliant.

United KingdomThe TV was old with very limited viewing options. The water pressure in the shower was very poor, but the bath was full sized and so relaxing in the bath after a day on the fells became my go to relaxation.
An amazing location, clean and comfortable rooms and friendly and attentive staff. We only ate breakfast at the restaurant but this was also excellent.

United KingdomWindow couldn't fully shut which meant wind could get in. Shower head was not adjustable. Internet connection not the most stable, but could simply be due to location.
Stunning views, spacious and comfortable rooms, very friendly staff. I do not normally like to get housekeeping and I put up a 'do not disturb' sign throughout my stay, and a housekeeping staff asked me if I needed anything (toilet rolls, tea bags etc.) when she saw me leave. Glenridding is a small village and does not have many restaurant options, but the hotel has one, which was very convenient for having dinner (delicious food as well!).

United KingdomWe were next to a refill station/room and it was noisy. We also had a noisy fan outside of our room which came on and off through the night. the right side of our double bed was dropping towards the floor so it wasn’t a very comfortable bed on one side. We also had to keep unplugging our tv (plug behind tv unit so not easy to access) to get the sound to work. There were just too many negative items linked to one room (29). With regard to the staff, they were generally not friendly in how they interacted with residents. We made an effort to be friendly however this was not reciprocated. The service was cold and reception staff made assumptions without seeking facts to meet residents’ needs. This was a repeated experience sadly.
they had a box of towels for us to use for our dogs and this was most helpful

United KingdomA key reason to visit the hotel was the location and the setting, we weren't told about the work at the back of the hotel before or when we arrived and the garden area and path to the lake was closed. Disappointing given how much we paid to stay there.
Location Glenridding village, Steamers and walk trails close by. Aira Force a few mins drive, well worth a visit. Room Friendly welcome Food although small portions Lounge area

United KingdomNothing that we didn't really like, just a few comments to consider, with having 2 dogs with us it may have been better to have allocated us a ground floor room. The lift was a little hit and miss, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. The rooms, customer lounges and dinning rooms were lovely, but the corridors were a little tired.
The service was excellent and the fact that there is a separate dinning room for customers who have dogs with them was very good, the staff were really good and welcoming and if we asked for anything the were happy to help. There was a slight confusion over the bill on checking out as I had clearly signed the wrong receipt the dinning room without checking it, a suggestion may be for the staff to read out the content to the customer prior to it being signed, can't complain about customer error. We would return to the hotel and the dog beds and bowls in the rooms was a nice added extra.

United Kingdom£15 per night for a small dog, plus a booking condition that any additional cleaning needed because of our dog would be charged separately. What is the £15pn for then? The food on the limited dinner menu (understandably we couldn’t eat in the restaurant because of our dog) was alright, but quite ordinary and lacked a “Wow-factor”. Room servicing was slightly “hit and miss”.
Lakeside location was excellent; ample off street parking; pleasant and relaxed atmosphere; dog friendly in most areas with reasonable restrictions on others; extensive grounds; smart if slightly clinical reception rooms/lounges; fabulous views; plenty of healthy options for a good breakfast; some very attentive and clued-up staff.
